So taking my nan to brunch we made the last minute decision to check the bistro out as it's been many years since we last come, And years ago this bistro was great, It was our go to place for lunch and dinner. We literally walked in looked at the menu My nan said this is an RSL Club you can't justify these prices and we walked out. That was a few months ago Fast forward to last night. We had a couple of beers played a few games Bar Staff is nice enough gaming staff are fantastic The atmosphere just isn't great any more it's definitely not the Great RSL it use to be. We decided to grab dinner After going through the menu My Husband said let's go elsewhere As $27 for a chicken schnitzel at a local club is too much (were use to paying $14.50 for 2 pieces a very full plate indeed) I said let's give it ago the prices may be worth it This is our first and only time. My husband got a Prawn Linguine For a dish that has so much going one It was flavourless he ended up put a fair bit of salt and pepper just too give it flavour! I wanted a Chicken Parmi As you can tell alot about a place by there Chicken Parmi's Well I was in complete shock when I read that you charge an extra $6 for ham! WTAF Charging an extra $6 for an ingredient that's automatically part of the dish. Like you don't charge people extra for putting eggs in an egg salad or Beetroot on a hamburger How Unaustralian Shame on you! So I just got a schnitzel The piece was small to medium But it was cooked very nicely for a frozen piece (And yes I know it's frozen because I've worked in Hospitality long enough to tell the difference) the veggies were cooked nicely it was a very basic pub meal definitely not worth the money though After this experience it makes up very hesitant to try your other restaurants at the club something we were...
Read moreThere are plenty of positives. Friendly casual Aussie vibe, good service, fairly clean and open venue. However the food is a -3/5, so any goodwill built that way just got cut down.
Definitive the worst bbq food I've had in my entirely life, and that's including the burnt woolies sausages I grilled at 4 years old myself.
I have no idea how they had the gall to chaege for $45 per person when knowing what I know now they couldn't have paid me $45 to eat that food.
Let's put it this way, the best cut of beef they had which they said was "limited" being the thinly sliced """"wagyu"""" beef they wouldn't even serve as the worst cut of beef at any other actual korean bbqs in Sydney today.
I had no idea meat can be of that poor quality, it was a revelation. Everything they served was drenched in marinade or frozen and they were pretty much the offcuts a butcher would use for feeding dogs. You also had to order portions of this rubbish which they served tiny amounts of per portion.
That turned out to be a blessing in disguise as I couldn't stomach eating anything they put up. Not to sound racist but no actual Asian would ever actually eat here willingly after one experience, this scam seems to work plenty on unsuspecting locals who probably have never ventured into a proper KBBQ ever in their lives.
Should be no surprise that they also don't serve any traditional dips such as ssamjang or sesame oil, and forget having lettuce lol. They also don't change your hotplate until you ask for it.
Usually I write feedback to help owners improve but this is the singular most disappointing place I've been to and it's just not for anyone...
Read moreI went to BBQ88 for dinner last night. It cost $106 for two adults. The food was dreadful. It claims to be Korean BBQ but it brings shame to the Korean BBQ industry.
The only good food was the rice. That’s it. The rice made in a rice cooker. The kimchi was Jonga kim chi from a supermarket jar (I know, because I buy eat that exact one at home). The meats had zero flavours. The only sauces available were a poor quality soy sauce and even worse quality sweet chilli sauce. The garlic prawns were the last straw - they were those cheap grey frozen ones with no shells, and came out in a slop of jarred minced garlic.
If I had paid $15-20 for this, I wouldn’t have been disappointed because I’d be getting what I paid for. But for over $100 - it was an insult.
We ordered maybe five or six items (the mini plates of one serving to try them) and we didn’t even finish those. We left without even bothering with dessert.
The guy serving was very nice, so I didn’t want to cause a scene and demand my money back on the spot - but in hindsight I wish that I had. I have thought of nothing else since leaving that restaurant - and it angers me that they are charging people that much money for such poor quality food....
