Iâm not sure when Soul Mate started going downhill, as we used to love this cafĂ©. For a place with a minimum 30-minute wait for a seat, followed by another 30+ minutes for food, youâd expect it to be fresh. Unfortunately, that hasnât been the case during our recent visits. The hashbrown has come out soggy, oily, and clearly not freshly cooked. The chicken sandwich had such a thin piece of fried chicken that it just ended up being dry. Bun was cold, not toasted. It just sucks to wait for so long and pay for food when it doesnât come out like it used to. We used to rave to our friends that this place had the best chicken sandwich in Sydney.
Today, I decided to give it another try and ordered the bae roll, but I was shocked when it came out coldâalong with the rest of the meals at our table. All three dishes were cold. For the prices youâre charging, and with such long wait times, the least you can do is serve warm, fresh food. This has happened the last few times weâve come here, and Iâm borderline just considering not coming back.
Itâs frustrating and disappointing, especially since weâve brought friends here for brunch, hyping it up, only to see the quality get worse and worse. The atmosphere and service are great, but I hope you can address the food...
Read moreI visited soulmate on Sunday, And waited 20 minutes for a table, which I was happy to do. I had let the staff member know there would be four of us dining, but one person was running late and she was hesitant to seat us until that person had arrived despite me waiting 20 minutes, which I did not understand. I assured her my friend was on the way, so she sat us down, Only to be sat at a communal table anyway. We ordered food and after having sat down for about an hour, were told that they needed the table in five minutes. If you were going to do this, itâs best practice to tell people prior to them sitting down and waiting for a table, that they only have a one hour sitting. I own a cafe and I have never done this to a customer trying to enjoy their Sunday, despite us being busy. I had traveled there 30 minutes to catch up with friends I havenât seen in months, travelling from interstate so this was an unpleasant experience. We were hoping for a nice laid-back breakfast, But instead, were rushed to finish and go somewhere else. I also noticed that the table sitting next to us had been sitting longer than us and were not asked to leave. They brought the bill to our table twice in case we missed it the first time. I will not...
Read moreNew to Newtown, Soulmate is a great cafe run by the guys from Bella Vistaâs Good Fella Coffee,
Serving up @single_o coffee in milk based, as well as having batch brew, cold brew or even their âMcHenryâ - a batch brew with whipped cream. If youâre not a coffee drinker, there is hot chocolate, chai, kombucha and smoothies.
Their all day menu has a range of super appealing dishes with plenty of scope those of al dietary requirements.
Thereâs banana bread, house muesli, eggs on sourdough or a generous bowl of porridge topped with fruits, bacon and egg rolls, smoked salmon and potato pancake or even a porchetta roll or broccoli salad.
Although not vegan, we tried their tofu scramble which had a great smooth creamy consistency to it, replicating eggs well and super tasty.
Their deli hoagie is certainly a good choice for the hungry diners. It is a loaded sandwich with salami, ham, provolone, mustard pickle, mayo, tomato, lettuce on a long soft roll. We added a hash brown!
The guys there are so friendly and welcoming. It was super busy for their first weekend and eveything was spot on.
Good vibes, great service and even...
