Had high expectations as I'm a huge fan of Spicy Joint (in Burwood, CBD & Chatswood) but was slightly disappointed after trying here. Menu retains some of SJ's dishes (such as their cold dishes & snacks) but mainly offers a hotpot experience. We got the double flavour soup base in spicy & bone broth. Really didn't like how they don't allow you to make your own sauces - they only have 5 pre-made dipping sauces to choose from. We got the 'secret sauce' because of the sesame sauce but there was too much chill oil and not enough garlic. Quality of ingredients is a great though, not top tier but pretty good quality for the price you're paying. However, their hotpot ingredients are quite limited, they basically had no seafood and didn't have lobster balls, fish roe balls or rice cake with cheese. Service was friendly and I enjoyed the non-hotpot dishes we ordered, but I probably wouldn't return for their hotpot. Had my doubts of this eatery from reading the reviews nonetheless I gave it a try as many reviews I find these days are influenced by emotions or personal prejudices which is a terrible shame. Arrived too late at the restaurant for lunch. Didn’t want to be pressed for time to finish our meal, we opted for takeaway instead. Was served by a friendly and chatty cashier which was good enough for me. Portion of food was alright and delicious due to the generous use of MSG, I suspect. We could have easily drank a lakeful of water and had migraines that lasted for several days. If only prior reviews mentioned this as we have a low tolerance for MSG. My other gripe is that i was charged for containers for takeouts which I find it an u reasonable cost and no 5% discount if paid in cash like most other eateries do.

It was pretty meh. The service was slow, even though it was half empty at lunchtime it still took a fair while to get our lunch. The people that served the food weren't rude as such but they just dropped of food on the table and left, without saying a single word, not even "excuse me" or "enjoy" nothing. The food was average, again not bad but just nothing special. The chilli beef stir fry was just over the top with the amount of chilli. When I say over the top I don't mean too spicy, I just mean it physically had to much chilli. If you look at the pictures it is literally just a wok full of chillies and ginger with a bit of beef sprinkled throughout. Lastly the serving was a bit small.

Incredibly disappointed with the service and quality of food.

Was standing awkwardly at the front of the “wait to be seated” sign whilst staff walked by ignoring my group as they chatted and went on their phones. Had to approach the staff if we could sit and she didn’t bother greeting us, she just turned around and walked us to our seat. Staff then gave us our menus then left - didn’t really explain how we should order especially as it was my friends first time trying hotpot. When we asked a question the staff also gave slight attitude. Other staff serving us had airpods in both ears as well.

When we got our orders it was incredibly underwhelming and disappointing. The chicken tenders looked like brain as it was incredibly slimy and chunky. The meat portions was very little for what we paid for and there was limited options for the soup base.

Definitely will not be back nor would I recommend. Only nice thing about this place was...

2nd time here to try the spicy fish hotpot it was a little oily but not bad taste wise The other dishes ordered was good it was all fresh However I was surprised to see the restaurant not busy at all first time here we got the last vacant table and within 15min there was a long queue waiting but this time the restaurant was mostly empty The food hasn’t changed so I guess is the service as did find whenever we ask for something we have to ask multiple times The staff wasn’t keen on doing anything more than they have to but there was 1 staff in particular she was just rude I ask her for a new cup as the one I have was chipped she slammed it hard on the table and she did it with the food also it just bad attitude and makes me feel unwelcome if I was to go again if I see the same person think I will turn around and...
