Springwood Charcoal Chicken Spot — Restaurant in Sydney

It was hot yesterday and even hotter inside the store. No fans or air conditioning, felt sorry for the workers. They were fast with taking order and cooking chips. No line up. Polite. Chips were crunchy and have good amount of chicken salt. A large was a perfect for a family, good amount of chips for the price. Everyone loved it. They stayed crunchy too. Some chips go soggy by the time you get them home, not these chips. The paper it was wrapped up in did a good job of soaking up a lot of the excess oil. The chook. I got a whole chook. It is not chicken cooked over charcoal or coals. It tastes like they brushed the outside with liquid smoke flavouring as only the skin was smoky and the meat was bland. How can you call it charcoal chicken if you dont use charcoal to cook it. When using real charcoal the smoke flavours the meat. This is liquid smoke brushed on the outside to give the smoky flavour. The meat itself was dry and way overcooked. The wing meat was rock hard and inedible it was that over cooked, the thigh meat had a lot of fat. Sections were so overcooked the usually soft meat was crunchy. But the skin was not crispy, it was soggy. Sitting in the warming display section for who knows how long. The stuffing was bland. This is no substitute for El janhe, it does not even taste like real charcoal chicken. I would even say iga has better chicken. The whole place needed a scrub down, you could see the oil residue from the deep fryer on the walls and the security cameras. Exhaust fans must not be efficient. It was a hot day, as a customer it was uncomfortable waiting there, outside was cooler. Install fans or an air con. The chicken was way over priced for overcooked, bland and dry.
