The last time I was here there were wild cats with bad attitude. Not so this time. Change of name, change of attitude, change of decor and service and you have the very hip, very happening SugarSalt. We came on a Saturday morning so it was busy but the staff - barista, cook, waitress - managed well. Coffee was good, food was delicious, bill was on the high side but we're all stuck in this endless chase for the illusion of money so no criticism there. What was it about then? Nice place to have a chat, bring your family, bring your friends, come alone, enjoy the coffee, enjoy the eggs, the Vegemite, the bacon, the mango smoothies and chatter - all of the good things that go into making these mornings so pleasant and creating such good memories. Our waitress was both lovely and attentive and no doubt switched on with a bright future ahead of her, so applause for that, and applause to the barista who observed our little family group of four so deep in discussion it looked like we were in the throes of a Facebook business meeting. Lil Zuckerberg's indeed! That's just how we roll in our family! You might say the spittin' is tight, if you were QTip and it was 1999. Which it isn't. You think you won't but I think you might. Still, SugarSalt espresso has Wifi which is a bonus. Take a stroll to the nearby Jubilee park to gain some extra points/ lose those...
Read moreSugar Salt espresso is located in southern Sydney, close to the train station in Mortdale. In a suburb filled with an array of multicultural restaurants, this cafe is the only one of its kind. It’s the perfect place for a top coffee or a weekend brunch.
We visited on Mother’s Day and naturally this meant it was super busy! We sat outside, but well looked after by the wait staff. The cafe had a lovely surprise, giving all the mums there a flower! How sweet. They also had ‘Mum’ donuts which made it a special day for the mums there. They had even arranged another special surprise for a mother, when her son returned from the army to deliver her coffee!
Despite the fact it was totally packed out, the food did not come with a long wait. The chef was extremely efficient and food came out quickly and beautifully presented.
It was a super cold and rainy day so we got some warming dishes. The eggs Benedict with truffle hollandiase sauce, and your choice of ham, bacon or salmon (we chose ham), and some asparagus and greens, it was a lovely combination of flavours.
We also had the smashed avo with poached eggs, pomegranate and the sliced almonds were a nice touch.
We enjoyed our visit and appreciate the good service and...
Read moreThe reason I rated 3 stars, is due to the hygiene. The staff were all very nice and professional. The coffee and food was nice. BUT!!!!!! One of the male waiters did NOT wash his hands even after: Scratching his nose minimum 11 times in 10 minutes, Scratching his arms, many times in 10 minutes Scratching his beard,, CONSTANTLY, Blowing his nose twice, Scratching other parts of his body. His nails were black. He would touch straws with his whole hand. He would put things in the cup for blending with his hands, no gloves!
I REALLY would love a new cafe since Grind closed, and I thought this would be good. But due to the hygiene, I would only come back if: A) Was contacted and promised the hygiene issues were resolved.... use gloves! B) Not have this guy touch ANY of my things! C) Actually see they make an effort in teaching about the importance of hygiene and the spread of bodily germs.
Again, anything else was fine and he was really nice. But knowing how sick you can get from someone being so unclean, is actually making my stomach turn. I only saw this AFTER I ordered and...
