Sushi Maru — Restaurant in Sydney

Sushi Maru's Blacktown location is conveniently situated on the upper floor of the main shopping complex next to the Blacktown train station, and is set up as a sushi train with a kitchen to accommodate all manner of hot and cold dishes not already available on the conveyor belts. The interior is well spaced and the design modern and interesting, with the train and seating positioned to make service efficient and non crowded.

Our group of 3 was warmly greeted by both the on site manager and the owner, and they promptly seated us along the outer edges of the train. Our orders of beers and sakes were delivered and refilled in a timely manner. Credit must be given to the kitchen as they were nice enough to accommodate a small tasting portion of the yakisoba when they noticed our interest but reluctance to order the full size.

The variety of items available on the train itself was quite large and we never found ourselves bored with our decisions. Every piece of sashimi was exceedingly fresh, and the presentation impeccable. The house special made rolls ranged from safe and well known combinations to more exotic creations that allowed us to experiment boldly from a position of familiarity. On top of all this the pricing for each dish was more than reasonable which put our minds at ease with just how much we were putting away. In fact, we were so satisfied with our dinner that we finished 29 plates among the 3 of us (see pictures for proof!).

This venue is located on the top floor of Westpoint Blacktown. The decor and ambience are quite modern and they have inside and outside seating area. On top of the ready-to-eat sushi plates on the ‘sushi train’, you can also have made-to-order dishes. On this first visit we tried variety of their dishes. Everything was fresh and tasty. What I love: One of Maru signature dish: salmon with special sauce and parmesan cheese. It’s amazing! Very unique and delicious. Karaage set: Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. So tasty. The sauce is also very good. Prawn tempura set: I definitely can’t get enough of these crispy prawn tempura. Chicken yakisoba: flavoursome. The other sushi plates were all delightful too. Ordered Karaage when arrived. After half an hour waiting asked where it was only to have the girl question me. I stated that o had no received it. She still needed to check. Looked at my plates, tried to tell me that I had received it. I explained that the plate she was Looking at is from a dish i got off the belt. She then went back to check. Realised i was right. Had my chicken within a few minutes. Plate was steaming hot so my only guess is that it was reheated in the microwave. Unfortunate, as i have just moved into the area and was hoping this would be our go to Sushi train place. Will be looking elswwhere or even travelling all the way...
