I work next door at USYD and I would only come to this coffee shop as my last option due to the fact that the staff are not always attentive and sometimes can be quite rude. Today experience was one of many examples but it was so shocking that I feel should be noted. I stopped by around 1pm in a rush and was the first and only customer in line at that point, there was 1 person making coffee and the rest of the front counter team was tidying up after the lunch rush, which can be done while also observing who's approaching the counter. I say this because I have done so during my barista days. I stood there for 2 minutes waiting to be acknowledged and the line behind me by then has become longer with 8 more people joining the queue. One person who was at the juice counter did see me and alerted their colleague who was marking the rolls at the front to speak to me, that person did not respond. I eventually had to say 'Hi' to get some attention and the response received was 'Yeah, just one second'. No apology for the customers waiting, took my order and handed me the food with such irritation. If this was a one time incident, I could probably understand as everyone is entitled to a bad day, but this is one of many examples where customers are treated with such cold attitude and rudeness. The food and coffee are good but unfortunately the service quality is very low compared to other coffee shops around the university campus. The only advantage this Taste has is the location, being so close to USyd and RPA, staff who are often time poor can grab a quick lunch and go back to the office. I only would stop by as a last resort when I'd want a change in my lunch menu without walking up Missenden Rd or King Street. I went back to my desk and look up the University list of recommended caterers and was happy to see that this Taste is not on there as I would not want your staff to cater for our events with such a lack of basic interpersonal and customer...
Read moreThis by far perhaps the most poorly managed, rigid, and low food quality workplace outlet you will ever come across. Plenty of carb & sugar loaded / zero nutritional value options. Zero effort to align the food menu offering to the most recent science produced by the academic centre they are supposed to serve: Charles Perkins Centre. For example, a couple of years ago and for reasons unclear to me they removed wholemeal options altogether. During COVID they also ceased the fresh food service, but never re-initiated it. Even their haloumi salad is loaded with huge chunks of white bread as a filler, as if they are on a mission to carb you up!
Service is highly erratic too. If you get hungry past 1:30-2pm you will likely be told that they have "sold out" and they will refuse to e.g. make a baguette for you. Overall, a disappointing and embarrassing in terms of food quality cantina. The way this place is run, makes it obvious to me that the one and only concern of the management is to maximise profits for the enterprise, not to serve the needs of an academic workplace and to offer a...
Read moreAt 12:30pm on Friday, I’m working at CPC as a contractor and forgot a fork for lunch. I thought taste baguette would be so kind in possibly giving me a disposable fork. I was wrong. I proceeded to approach a lady with her back towards the counter on the side of the shop, to my surprise when she turned around she was eating her nails ontop of the counter whilst talking to me. I asked for a disposable fork as I’ve forgotten mine, she proceeds to laugh at me and asked if I bought anything at the shop. That morning I bought a bacon&egg roll, which I told her. Then she laughed with her co-worker again and said 20c for a fork, she told me to go around the front of the shop where the line was massive and essentially cut in or wait in line. Terrible customer service....
