I love The Café Sienna. It’s a family business in an old corner store on the back streets of Annandale. Niki makes one of the best iced lattes in Sydney with the perfect ratio of ice, milk coffee and sugar. I travel around a bit and when I get a bad iced latte elsewhere my mind will often go to Niki’s iced latte because she’s so reliable making it. One time last year one of the kids was on the deck and they got the ratio slightly wrong. ‘As a neurodivergent’ person emotions can get ahead of me and I had a disproportionately irritated response. I wasn’t mean to the kid. Working as a teenager is difficult and most of us remember that. But it was obvious I was annoyed. So, the kid goes backstage, and Niki comes out and makes it properly, no fuss, no blowback. A year later the kid has acquired his mum’s coffee skills so it’s consistent regardless of who is behind the machine. The space itself is large and relaxed. I usually get a take-away, but of late I’ve been sitting with an intention to leave but found I’m so comfortable that I drink the entire beverage while I’m still there. The key to it is the lack of pretence, so all demographics are welcome and there’s room. A large central table can accommodate big groups and there’s plenty of seating outside on the corner if it’s a sunny day. There’s a diverse menu and, in my experience, they cater to food intolerances (just ask) with good take away options if you’re on the go. So yeah, recommend. If you’re in Annandale go...
Read moreI felt a bit nostalgic about my time in the inner west of Sydney so my wife and I did a detour to The Cafe Sienna.
It is not often that all the elements of a cafe combine to create a hospitality venue with character - The Cafe Sienna succeeds.
The inner west if Sydney is a busy high density area. Annandale Street is a pocket of this suburb which is peaceful (if you ignore a little aircraft noise). The corner property with outside tables on two sides comfortably sits in a residential precinct. The outside tables are pleasant particularly on a sunny day. The inside tables sit in a bright sun drenched space with art work on the walls.
The super power of this cafe are the beautiful staff. A group of young staff with Nepalese heritage, elegant manners and radiant smiles look after their customers efficiently but with a gentleness that warmed my soul.
Even on a busy Sunday morning the kitchen pumps out the food quickly. The portions are generous. For this coffee fanatic, my macchiato was the best I have found in ages.
A special thank you to one of the female staff who came to the rescue when one of my dogs was sick on the footpath. She quickly helped with buckets of water to clean up the mess. We appreciated her no fuss and friendly approach to us and our dogs. A water bowl for the dogs appeared very shortly after we settled at our table.
As you can probably see, I love this cafe. I felt a bit of the vibe one gets from great...
Read moreIt was a miserable morning as i sat in my living room unable to walk due to an ankle injury that occured the day before, i browse doordash for 55 minutes before deciding on ‘the cafe Sienna’ I called the cafe sienna to ask if they could replace the bread on their smoked salmon eggs benedict and the friendly gentleman on the other end of the line agreed.
The food arrived after about half an hour and the coffee was well packed, the eggs cooked to perfection and the extra hollandaise happily sitting there waiting to be devoured. Honestly this breakfast made my morning, the food in Sydney isnt cheap and isnt always up to standard but i definitely felt as though i got my moneys worth at this cafe. It was my first time trying and i will most definitely order again and visit in person.
Thank you to whoever...
