Tucked away at the Loft level, sits one of the few small cafes over this way, with easy listening jazz playing in the background. The staff are super friendly & attentive. Altho the menu isn't extensive its more than enough if wanting something on the lighter side whilst working on your laptop, sipping one of their coffee or tea varieties, blended juices or soft drinks. Another plus from me is the serving of Breakfast ALL DAY. Can never understand ANY restaurant/cafes who cut off breakfast at around 1100. I mean some of we jet-setters (may i add EX Jet setters) ENJOY a breakfast menu any time of the day. Being close to the Macquarie Railway Station, University & Hospital this does cater for those who travel, study or work in those areas. Not a Cafe for children so don't even think about it. The atmosphere is best suited for quiet, relaxed conversations whilst sipping coffee & perhaps enjoying a sweet treat. One of the most interesting features within, is a large blackboard, printed up with the HISTORY of their coffee, its origins dating back to the 700s when the benefits (or not) of the COFFEE bean was founded by a goat herder whose goats became super active after eating the coffee beans off the bushes. The HISTORY in brief, continues thru to the 2000s describing the year & Countries when the coffee bean was first introduced, the name changes AND also the 1st introduction of the various styles of coffee machines. A most interesting read. The relaxing music is what 1st drew me into the Cafe after I had completed my business on that level. Well I sure enjoy my caffeine hit there as one of my GO TO places & I'm sure you will too. Sip, sit...
Read more3.7 - This place looks dark from the outside but there's actually enough light to read from inside. Aesthetically it is comfortable, however the leather seats are all cracked and old + sticky menus with food on them. I had a delicious Roasted Veg on Rye Toast but yes, it did take a very long time to arrive. Problem was that the bread wasn't toasted as specified on the menu, so when I picked it up to eat, the oil soaked through the bread and rolled all down my hand and wrist ie very messy! (Next time, I will ask them to make sure the bread is well toasted). Coffee here is creamy but rather bitter/slightly burnt (with Soy/Almond milks), and this time, I asked for a smoothie (which she recommended was nice as it was made with Apple juice) - oh dear. I so regretted having it. It was icy and way too sweet. I did notice that many people drop by to get coffees and that it looked like a family run business, which I like to support. The service is lovely - they really try to be pleasant. You may want to think about what you wear though because my cardigan smelled like BBQ when I left the cafe, which I realised must be because of the Open...
Read moreI had a coffee and a blueberry muffin and they were good. I got there early with the notion in my head to get the last of my year 12 marking done, and nabbed a table up on the back mezzanine level. Although the lighting was not so conducive to the task I had planned I really needed to get them done, so I pressed on. The coffee was hot and adequate for my needs, and arrived with little fuss. The muffin was delightful. I cut it into quarters, and cut each quarter into thirds and then used each tasty blueberry morsel as an incentive to continue reading through the next bundle of woeful essays on Billy Elliot. I got them all marked, with barely enough red ink left in my pen to leave some scathing feedback on a student's inability to avoid a comma splice. I would rate this cafe significantly higher than I rate my students' ability to compose an analytical essay. Although not quite a Band 6 cafe, it was a solid Band 5. I will be back next time I have marking to complete while my wife wants to...
