I have never been so disgusted by the blatant racism I experienced at this cafe. Upon arrival, I was not greeted by any staffs. After seating for around 10 minutes, no one approached me to take my order. I attempted to make eye contact with the servers, but despite noticing me, they chose to ignore me and continued cleaning unoccupied tables instead? The cafe was not even busy at the time.
When a server finally came to my table, they did not provide a menu and immediately asked for my order. This was shocking so I just stared back at him. I had to go and request water for myself after my meal, while the table next to me with people of lighter skin complexion received water before they even placed the order.
Finally, when I went to pay, the girl at the front saw me standing there waiting for her, but she was still on her phone for some time lol. Did not even say anything about it afterwards, she just straight up asked what did I want.
In addition to the shockingly racist experience, I was also disappointed with the food. I used to live nearby and their shakshuka dish was one of the best for me in the past. I paid $28 for the shakshuka and it was COLD. They also changed the way they cooked it. It resembled a runny tomato soup with two boiled eggs on top now.
Worst experience...
Read moreTried brunching on Bourke street. We’ve walked out dog past this place many times and it has always been packed. Sure enough, it was crowded today too, but we lucked out—just as we queued up, a table cleared up. We were on the Bourke Street side, so our dog got to sniff many passing pups while she waited. Alas, no water bowls offered to her.
Alas the taro latte and matcha latte were both out, but my partner settled on a turmeric latte. Apparently it’s good for you. Tasted good too. I went with a flat white—a classic. I forgot to ask for oat milk!
She had the more chili croissant with egg and shrimp while I had the lamb, capsicum, and spinach gozleme. We were both quite happy with our choices and we devoured every bite. It was very filling, and despite my coffee I promptly took a nap after returning home.
Would definitely go back to try some of the other...
Read moreThis place is truly a local gem! It’s my second time visiting, and what a difference new management makes. The first time I gave it 3 stars, but this visit is a solid 5 out of 5. The quality of the food has definitely improved — everything tasted fresh and homemade.

This time we ordered the Hahshsh Chicken Platter, hashbrowns, and the orange cake— everything was flavorful and beautifully prepared. The second time really was the charm!
