Discrimination & Mistreatment at Neutral Bay
I am a regular customer & have always enjoyed the coffee and baked goods here. However, I have never felt so ostracized, embarrassed and discriminated against.
I am medically exempt from wearing a mask. I was asked by a staff member before I stepped inside, "mask?" I informed her I was medically exempt. I proceeded with my coffee order and was questioned again by another staff member "you have a mask?" I informed her again I am medically exempt. She continued with, "oh have you got a problem?" This is extremely rude and upsetting as it is personal information that I have to repeatedly tell the staff in front of other customers.
Not to mention they got my coffee order wrong. When I questioned why my coffee was only half full, the staff member rudely responded with "you ASKED for half full". I am a paying customer and instead of politely asking me, she aggressively insinuated that I asked for half full and did not apologise when it was her own staff getting the order wrong.
I am extremely upset, disgusted and ashamed. I will never support this...

Staff !!! certainly live by the name, Grumpy.. unwelcoming on both occasions and put out when politely asking for corrections to order. Occasions 1 Tea : Nothing more than water and milk, asked for replacement, recieved same again asked 3rd time to be scoffed at so left the tea and walked away rather lose money than engage in negative agressive behaviour from a member of staff. Sausage roll : trying to be Highend and failing miserably. Sour tasting more fruit than meat. Threw in bin after 2 bites.
Occasions 2 Staff Miserable and short. $12 For a underbaked single over cooked dry lump of meat with diced carrot wrapped in pastry. Again certainly not a good quality pie. Coffee long black Luke warm and burnt.
Occasion 3: wont be happening, certainly not wasting any more money or time on Grumpy...
Read moreMixed experience - i'd say 5 stars if you take away the beautifully baked bread a pies, and 2 stars if you want to have the meals there.
Pros - pies are Amazing. We tried a goulash pie, Moroccan lamb pie, Jerusalem bagel, bourek with cheese and spinach, small bourek with cheese and cinnamon scroll and all of these are beautiful. We also bought black russian rye - although this is very different from russian rye bread, it is delicious in its own way.
Cons - service and coffee. There seems to be a big staff turnover and the staff look tired and over-worked - call-out to the owner to take a note.
The coffee is burnt (to my taste).
Conclusion: takeaway for breads and pies is fantastic, having the meals with coffee there needs...
