The one thing labelled ‘vegan’ on the menu isn’t even vegan 😞😑 I went to the Rusty Rabbit café in Darlinghurst in my lunch break and found this açai bowl as the only vegan food option in the place. Because I’ve been burnt before about non-100% vegan places not giving a rat’s about proper ingredient checking and labelling, I trusted my suspicions and inquired after the granola about whether it had honey in it. It did. I got the açai without the granola and peanut butter in its place. The dude serving me weirdly put the peanut butter in this takeaway coffee cup because he ‘didn’t know how to mix it in’ 🤷♀️ Which is fine, I guess, but like, maybe drizzle it on top like every other place? Or maybe put it in a nice ramekin and not waste a takeaway cup? I politely spoke to the manager about the misleading labelling issue afterwards and he didn’t really take the issue seriously, saying they order different brands of granola with and without honey in it all the time for that dish but no one really checks. Why not just find a non-honey brand and stick to it?? The manager made no indication that he intended to fix the untrue and misleading labelling in the future and just kind of shrugged.
For the acai bowl itself, the acai was half-melted when it came out under a pile of fruit lazily thrown on top of it with no visible effort given for presentation. The chia seeds? One pinch. The apple shards were kind of a weird choice too and difficult to try to eat with the soup spoon they gave me. The variety of fruits there was good, but the whole thing was definitely not worth anything close to the ridiculous $20 they charge for it. They're also one of the few cafes I've come across that uses milk-solid-containing chocolate power and chai powder, so vegans can't even get chai lattes, mochas, hot chocolates, or even chocolate-powder dusted cappuccinos there. Summary: If you're vegetarian there's plenty for you. If you're...
Read moreA quaint, rustic cafe located on a street corner in Darlinghurst. The Rusty Rabbit is perfect for afternoon brunch or a cup of coffee in the relaxing and warm family atmosphere. Although the interior isn't much from the outside, the food presentation and taste itself speaks otherwise.
🍽 DISHES SAMPLED ⭕️ GINGER NINJA | The presentation of this dish was amazing despite it essentially being salmon on toast. I could really taste the ginger seasoning, however the dish in some sections went overboard on the honey sesame. This unfortunately overpowered the taste of salmon, avocado and feta and upset the balance of flavour.
⭕️ CHEESECAKE PANCAKE | This dessert is a must try if you ever stop by The Rusty Rabbit. The pancake texture was so incredibly fluffy and the presentation was immaculate just as advertised. It literally felt like I was tasting a cheesecake in the form of a pancake (a perfect match for the name!) and the serving was surprisingly generous and filling. The maple syrup, blueberries and strawberries really complimented the pancake batter and I really couldn't fault the dish overall.

Read moreI ordered the pancakes and a falafel salad and you know how you normally eat falafel in a cafe and they're quite dry and taste like sawdust? Well this is not that cafe🤣🤣 this was really one of the best dishes I've had in a cafe recently. Really moist flavoursome falafels with beautifully marinated eggplant and everything worked well together. The pancakes looked absolutely amazing but sadly they were very very dry so that's the only reason they lose one star because the pancakes although looking amazing we're just a little bit heavy and dry. I think a pancake should be fluffy and moist or even if the pancake is more dense it should still be moist.. coffee was average but quite cute when one coffee comes out saying I 🧡U written by Freepour.. and the second copy comes out saying I🧡U2... that was pretty cute and the service was really friendly by what looked like to be the owner and really cool Vibe they're so I would definitely try again just not the hot cakes... I do hope I just got the hotcakes on a bad day though and they're usually as yummy...
