I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the behavior and conduct of your security personnel during my recent visit to The Sussex on 22/11/24. I believe it is important to bring to your attention the unprofessional and disrespectful manner in which the security staff handled their duties, as it fell far below the expected standard of service that your venue promises.
Firstly, I was disappointed to witness the security guards interacting with guests in a manner that was both dismissive and rude. The guards seemed uninterested in addressing guests' concerns, and their tone of communication was condescending. Instead of offering assistance or politely guiding guests, their responses were curt and lacked any sense of respect or courtesy. This not only created a negative atmosphere but also made several of the guests, including myself, feel unwelcome and uncomfortable.
Additionally, the security guards failed to maintain the professionalism expected at such a prestigious venue. Their actions reflected a complete disregard for the venue's standards and the well-being of the guests. In one instance, I observed a situation where a minor issue was handled with excessive force, and the guests involved were treated in an unnecessarily harsh manner. This type of behavior does not align with the level of service and respect that guests should receive at a venue of your caliber.
I would also like to emphasize that the security staff's behavior did not reflect the high standards that I associate with a CBD venue . A venue of this stature should ensure that its staff, including security personnel, embody a welcoming, safe, and professional environment at all times. Unfortunately, the actions of the security guards left a lasting negative impression, one that does not align with the reputation and experience I expected from your venue.
As a guest, I had hoped to enjoy my time at The Sussex in an atmosphere of courtesy and professionalism. Regrettably, the behavior of your security staff made that impossible. I kindly request that this issue be addressed and that appropriate measures be taken to ensure that all security personnel are properly trained in customer service, communication, and maintaining a respectful environment.
I hope you take this feedback seriously and work to improve the experience for future guests. Thank you for your attention to...
Read moreCompany had booked a farewell party for 25 on Thursday 15/05/2025. Got told by security that the roof top was at max capacity despite having a booking. Got told it was our fault for arriving late even though there was already 15 odd of our staff waiting inside. The male Security guard called us "argumentative" and as one of my female colleagues questioned the security guards "decision" he had the audacity to ask her "Did you really start an argument before you leave".
The male security guard then employed a 1 person out and 1 person in system. The security guard couldn't count who he let in or out by simply saying "he didnt see" people leaving. He let in a gentleman who arrived after us and said it was because he was "alone" despite me seeing the gentleman greet other people upstairs on the roof top. Again the security stated "he didn't see". The security guard later called up the male manager because we were being "difficult". Again the male manager was rude and dismissive. No apology and barely had the chance to stand facing us and quickly left to supposedly serve at the bar upstairs. My other female colleagues felt the atmosphere was uninviting and left.
Disappointing as we have been to this venue several times and work around the area. Overall, it seems that the place cannot manage large amounts of people in a professional manner. Seems like security guard being an issue where they are condescending and rude is a common theme. Tone and de-escalation skills are equally as important. If management can also look at the 1 star review left by Chris L...
Read moreThe Sussex Hotel and halal friendliness:
"Bolivia: Where the Andes meet the quirky charm of The Sussex Hotel? I'm not really sure, but I loved the way the salt flats reflected the eclectic decor of this iconic Sydney pub. Too bad the meat options are as scarce as a decent pint of British ale in La Paz – let's just say Bolivia isn't exactly halal-friendly. I mean, have you seen the 'recycling' of dead pigs in the streets? It's like a grim pub tradition.
The people of Bolivia are warm and welcoming, but only if you're into that sort of thing. The llamas? They're secretly enjoying the live music sessions at The Sussex Hotel, sipping on virtual pints of lager. And don't even get me started on the 'Bolivian beef' – let's just say it's not exactly sharia-compliant.
If you're feeling adventurous, take a trip to the Salar de Uyuni and imagine you're sipping on a cold one at The Sussex Hotel's bar, surrounded by the surreal landscape. And don't forget to visit the hotel's website – the online booking system is almost as confusing as navigating Bolivia's street food scene without getting lost in a maze of non-halal options.
The accommodations in Bolivia range from basic to breathtaking, much like the rooms at The Sussex Hotel – some have views of the 'pig cemetery', while others have stunning vistas of the Andes. Just don't expect any halal-certified room service.
3/5 stars, would recommend for the adventurous travelers who don't mind a side of pork with their Andean experience (and a pint at The Sussex Hotel,...
