I made a reservation at Tijuanas for 8:15pm last Saturday. Upon arrival, my Partner, I and our Friends were seated, only to be later informed by Nick the Owner, that the two men on our table wouldn’t be served alcohol. This incident left us feeling discriminated against and disappointed.
I took the opportunity to speak with Nick privately to understand the reasoning behind this decision. To my dismay, he claimed that our friend, wearing the white shirt, appeared intoxicated, despite only having only consumed having two beverages at Donny’s bar beforehand. Nick advised that “alcohol impacts everyone differently”. Due to his husky voice, being a medical condition, it became evident that our friend was being unjustly discriminated against based on assumptions rather than factual evidence.
Discrimination of any kind is completely unacceptable, and it is disheartening to witness such behavior in today's world. We fully comprehend the importance of responsible alcohol service, however we firmly believe that discriminatory behavior should never be tolerated.
In a respectful manner, we expressed our disappointment to Nick and informed him that we would not be dining at Tijuanas. We subsequently found another restaurant where we were welcomed and treated with the respect and fairness we deserve.
It is my hope that Tijuanas addresses this issue promptly and takes steps to ensure that no guest experiences discrimination in the future. Discriminatory practices have no place in any establishment, and it is crucial for businesses to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for all patrons.
I rarely write negative Google reviews as I firmly believe in supporting small businesses, however, the discrimination we experienced at Tijuanas was so significant that I feel compelled to share this review. It is crucial for establishments to be aware of and address such issues to ensure a fair and inclusive environment for...
Read moreTijuana's Manly: Where Manly Met Mexico (and My Taste Buds Did a Happy Dance) Forget Bondi, Byron, or Bali. The real fiesta is happening right here in Manly, at a little joint called Tijuana's. This ain't your average Tex-Mex chain, folks. This is the real deal, a culinary fusion of Mexico and Peru that'll have you saying "hola" to your new favorite restaurant. First things first: the food. Holy guacamole, it's good! The kingfish ceviche is so fresh and zesty, it practically jumps off the plate. The BBQ octopus is so tender and flavorful, it'll make you want to hug the chef. And the tacos? Let's just say, you haven't lived until you've tried their al pastor. It's a symphony of savory, sweet, and smoky goodness that'll have you licking your fingers (and maybe the plate, too). The drinks are equally impressive. Forget those watered-down margaritas you get at other places. Tijuana's serves up the real deal, with just the right balance of tangy lime and smooth tequila. And their pisco sours are so good, they'll make you feel like you're partying in Lima. But it's not just about the food and drinks. Tijuana's has a vibe that's hard to resist. The rustic decor, the warm lighting, the lively music – it all comes together to create an atmosphere that's both cozy and festive. You'll feel like you've been transported to a bustling cantina south of the border. So, if you're looking for a taste of the exotic without leaving Manly, head on down to Tijuana's. We’ve lived in Manly for almost a decade, and both my wife and I agreed that our lunch at Tijuana’s yesterday was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in the area.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Service was friendly and laid-back, yet impressively polite and professional. The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering just the right number of options to feel exciting without being overwhelming.
The dishes we tried reflected a beautifully executed blend of authentic Mexican flavours with a refined, modern dining approach. The standout for me was the slow-cooked beef tacos. From the first bite, I was hit with that incredible smoky flavour of seared, fatty beef—rich, aromatic, and satisfying. The texture was spot on: tender, but not mushy or stringy. And then came those layers of bold, complex Mexican flavours, perfectly balanced with a spicy kick that brought it all together.
Yes, it’s a little pricier than your average, generic Mexican spot—but given the quality of the ingredients and the clear culinary expertise behind each dish, the value is absolutely there. It’s well worth it.
I can’t wait to go back and explore more of the menu—and to pick out another mezcal from their...
