I didn't expect to be disappointed by such highly supported venue. The image of the menu did give away a bad vibe as it seems very westernised compared to the reasonable restaurants that we have visited in the past however with a positive hope from such high review score, we thought we would gove this shop a try. To begin with, the agedashi tofu was not agedashi tofu. Please use silk tofu unless you are calling the dish fried hard tofu. Please check the temperature of the oil when cooking your tempura. It's soaked in oil not properly crisp fried. Lastly, the karage was too dry and soaked with the sauce. You should try lightly seasoning it with the sauce on the side. I hope you work on your menu so your valued customers are treated with respect. Those food you serve your visitors are certainly substandard. I did notice majority of the staff were japanese. You are letting your people down. Please try 'the cuisine' at other places and learn from your...

I have decided that all places I eat that use msg (mono sodium glutamate) will never get more than 3 stars. Especially when they say they can't make a dish without it. And then advertise healthy, hearty cooking like mum cooked at home. It should not be necessary to cheat and use msg to fake taste for a good chef. That said the chicken karaage was nice. I could not eat the ramen though just thinking of the msg in it. If on my own I would not have eaten there. My apologies to the owner, who replied, for being on a crusade against msg, but I believe a good chef should create good food from only NATURAL ingredients and MSG is not natural. Yes it may be in the sauces, but you should try to have some, maybe half, dishes without msg and label the others as containing msg. I would like to see jipang and all other Japanese restaurants doing that. Just my opinion. Especially Jipang being "just like...

I have been coming here with my wife since it opened in 1993 ❤️ Food has always been Delicious & is still Delicious now 💯 I have recommended to Family & Friends over the years & they love coming to Manly to eat at Jipang ❤️ My many favourite dish’s is the Chicken Oyako Don, Japanese Katsu Curry Pork Cutlet & I put it on top of my Japanese chicken fried rice 😋 I love the Bento Box with Pork Katsu & Teriyaki Chicken & i love the Gyoza & Takoyaki along with the Pork Katsu Don & Chashu Ramen. I love the Japanese beers & sake & Japanese cocktail soda. I most of all love the friendly service & atmosphere with the Japanese music playing in the background. Great Food, Great Service & Great Music & Great People ❤️ Its a Manly Local Hidden Gem 10 out of 10 Please come here you won’t be...

I googled “cheap restaurants in Manly” and one of them is Jipang. So, my husband and I went there after doing the 5 hours of Spit-Manly walk. Turned out, it’s not cheap at all. Regular portion is $22 and large portion is $26. Curry udon (udon with just curry sauce - no protein) is $22. We were too hungry to move from the restaurant so we ate there; and the flavour was, I’m sorry… Nothing’s special. We spent $60 for two of us, feeling full but not fully satisfied. Maybe after all, there’s no cheap restaurants in Manly. However, the service was incredibly friendly and helpful — in fact the people in Jipang probably the most friendliest servers we have ever encountered. I didn’t get why some of the reviews said the opposite. Note: they have EFTPOS payment now.

I had a fantastic dining experience at this Japanese restaurant. The ambiance was calm and traditional, with soft lighting and tasteful decor that made me feel like I had stepped into a cozy spot in Tokyo. The sushi was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. I especially loved the salmon nigiri and the chef’s special roll — the balance of flavors was perfect. The miso soup was rich and comforting, and the tempura was crispy without being oily. Service was attentive and friendly. The staff were knowledgeable about the menu and happy to recommend dishes based on our preferences. Prices were reasonable for the quality of food and overall experience. I would definitely come back and recommend this place to anyone who enjoys authentic Japanese cuisine.

Jipang is one of those restaurants I recommend to everyone who wants a fulfilling and delicious meal. It is a standout hidden gem in Manly and I feel like no one talks about it enough! I go almost every Tuesday after work and am slowly but surely trying everything on the menu, and every single meal has been delicious. The staff are super lovely, helpful and welcoming and always bring me a glass of water despite it being a self service station🥺. If it’s anyone’s first time trying Jipang I highly recommend the curry ramen with added fried chicken and an egg, it’s my favourite thing on the menu and honestly one of the best meals i’ve had on the northern beaches! Thanks Jipang, you guys are awesome!
