Verandah Bar — Restaurant in Sydney

Verandah Bar is a great little go-to in the city. Drinks and food are reasonably priced and the staff are super friendly. The bar menu is varied enough that I don’t feel compelled to eat the same thing each time I visit. The only thing stopping this from being a 5-star review was my most recent experience on Friday, 2 August. A colleague and I arrived just after 4pm. The venue was packed and we selected a booth near the entrance where the sound was not too loud. At some point in the next hour, the volume of the music near the entrance went through the roof. It was so loud it was obnoxious. We couldn’t hear each other speaking. We had been planning on eating there and drinking some more but had to leave it was that noisy. The worst part was that the volume of the music in the main part of the bar was great!!! It was just that section near the door. We ended up leaving and continued our drinking and dining elsewhere. I had a booking for this place at 6.30pm, got there with my friends and 6.10pm and was told I was too late. I was told that my booking was done for 5.30pm? I showed them a confirmation email that said 6.30pm, had to wait for 10min without any instructions. The hostess in all of this did not acknowledge us, looked busy behind her laptop and after a few minutes told one of her colleagues to send us to the verandah public. No apologies, not even a courtesy acknowledgment of a mistake on their end or of what was happening? Just tried to usher us quietly to another bar that we had no intention of going to. It was a busy Friday night so there was no way we would get a booking at another bar/ restaurant. I can understand that there could have been a mix up for the reservations and we would have been okay with waiting for a bit for a table to free up but the hostess made no attempt to accommodate us at all. Very poor service, please try to do better specially when your system screwed up...
