This is Sydney’s premier public park. Located alongside the central business district. There are dozens of large trees that provide excellent shade inside the park. There are several public toilets dotted around the park. You’ll find a cafe at the northern end, and the Anzac war memorial at the southern end of the park. Norman Weekes’ winning design for the remodelling of Hyde Park was submitted in 1926. His design reflected European traditions and the ‘city beautiful’ ideal. It emphasised grand plazas and avenues, with vistas framed by impressive monuments. His design philosophy echoed Governor Macquarie’s original version of the park as an expression of civic benevolence. Weekes also wanted the park’s open spaces bs plantings to be Australian in character. He gave areas Aboriginal names that reflected the qualities of each space - such as Boongala, which meant place of green shade. Gwandalan, place of quiet. At the northern end of the park, where the Archibald Fountain is now, Weekes planned an octagonal-shaped formal ornamental garden and fountain. He called this area Birubi Circle. Weekes envisaged a library or grand memorial structure at the other end of the park, where the Anzac Memorial now stands. Council modified the plans extensively for economy and practicality. Just one year after Weekes’ winning design was accepted, many of his ideas, including Aboriginal place names, were discarded. A bridge that joined the southern and northern ends of the park, over Park Street, was approved by the city council in 1927, but has never been built. #HydePark #Sydney

Located on Elizabeth Street, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia 🇦🇺 Hyde Park is the oldest park in Australia and also one of the most well known parks in Australia 🇦🇺. It’s very easy to get to, especially by train as you have both Museum and St James Railway Stations which both back onto the park. On its Southern end is the Anzac Memorial which is a worth a visit by itself. Other notable attractions in the park are the Archibald Memorial Fountain and the various other fountains around around the park eg the Busby’s Bore Fountain. St Mary’s Cathedral also connects to the park and that’s a fantastic and beautiful building. You also have the various statues situated around the park. I really liked the Yininmadyemi, Thou didst let fall monument. There’s plenty of tree’s and grassy areas for people to sit and relax and even have a picnic. If you wanted a cafe, you have the Hydeaway in the South of the Park connected to Museum Station. Hyde Park is a really great park to just wander around and look at and enjoy all the figurines and monuments, and there are plenty. Besides these, the gardens are so beautiful. Sydney is so lucky to have such an incredible park right in the centre of the city. It’s a popular place and there’s always plenty of people just enjoying this incredible park. I always love coming here and would definitely recommend it to visitors and locals who haven’t been. Thumbs up 👍👍👍

Hyde Park in Sydney, NSW, is a beautiful and iconic green space right in the heart of the city. It’s the oldest public parkland in Australia, offering a peaceful retreat amid the hustle and bustle of the CBD. The park is divided into two sections: Hyde Park North and Hyde Park South, each with its unique features. Hyde Park North is known for the Archibald Fountain, a stunning centerpiece that pays homage to the alliance between France and Australia during World War I. Surrounding the fountain, there are lovely manicured gardens, wide paths, and a relaxing ambiance perfect for picnics, leisurely walks, or simply enjoying the outdoors. Hyde Park South is home to the ANZAC War Memorial, a solemn and important tribute to Australian soldiers, offering a reflective space for visitors. The park’s tree-lined avenues provide shaded walkways, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful stroll or a quick escape during a busy workday. Hyde Park is also a cultural hub, often hosting events, festivals, and art installations that draw locals and tourists alike. Its central location makes it easily accessible, and it’s surrounded by key Sydney landmarks such as St. Mary’s Cathedral, the Australian Museum, and the vibrant shopping district along Elizabeth Street.
