I do not make many negative comments about places like this having spent quite some time in hospitality industry and i know how difficult it is to get good staff but the staff here are some of the worst i have ever encountered . Perhaps they think we older patients in the hospital do not deserve to be treated with respect because it shows. Last night around 5.30 pm i needed to get something to eat as i hadn't eaten the whole day so i waited patiently to be served . There were a group of 3 all talking amongst themselves whilst another lady served customers . She told them three times there was a customer waiting and finally they moved in a group to the counter where i was and continued their conversation with their backs to me. They must have been deciding who the unlucky one would be to serve me whilst the other two moved back to the doorway of the kitchen. i asked for an item i could see in the serving tray as i was desperately hungry and was told " none " or words to that effect. Fair enough - they look old and dry anyway . So i resigned myself to a cup of wedges. So he gives me a 3/4 cup after removing some from the cup then snatches my five dollar note , an act that i find rude. Not a word from him but a sullen glare. When i tasted them back in the car they were cold and had a bitter taste of being cooked in oil that was old and having been reheated. Fair enough i should have guessed that being the end of day's trading - but it is the lack of customer service and manners that irritated me more than the lack of quality . It is not the first time you get simple and petty examples of bad service skills in this place - perhaps i wonder if it is because there is no competition within the hospital . Perhaps a bit of training for staff would...
Read moreThe main café just inside the entrance at RNSH has changed hands recently, and is now known as Caterez Café, and they also run the small single-person operation downstairs beside Emergency. Current management are so laid back they didn't even have it listed on Google! I've tried both outlets and discovered that the coffee varies markedly depending on who is on duty. The idea is to get the young guy who usually can be found downstairs mornings during the week. He is very pleasant, very efficient, knows his product range, and was obviously a capable barista, though the Cleanskin roast sometimes leaves a bit to be desired (try and get a day when he's got Full Throttle in the machine). A reasonable selection of freshly packaged sandwiches and wraps (not the cheapest but also not unreasonable in a hospital setting), Chef-cooked dishes, sweets, waters, protein drinks, soft drinks, smoothies (upstairs only) and juices, as well as coffee and tea, so most tastes catered for. Small-sized coffee $4:50. Some tables and chairs so while everything seems to be served as takeaway you can sit and eat at your leisure. Definitely worth a visit if you are at the hospital...
Read moreAttempted to grab something to eat from the coffee kiosk outside of the ambulatory care centre at 2pm, on 4/9/25. The server ignored us for 2 minutes, and when we finally got her attention she scowled at us. Thinking perhaps the kiosk was closed, I asked if they were still open. She replied “does it look like we’re still open?”, in a way that she couldn’t comprehend the audacity of me asking that question. Not only did I feel like the bad guy for wanting to spend money at your shop, I still didn’t know if the kiosk was actually open due to the backhanded response and general apathy towards us as customers (turns out it was open as I saw her serving customers after I’d left my appointment). Never in my life had I been talked to by someone as rude as this, especially in a customer service role. I could understand it if I was being rude and prompted the response in turn from her, however I hadn’t even said anything.
Needless to say, I bought elsewhere, and will continue to buy elsewhere in future. Whoever was working that day needs to...
