We were previously long term members of Sailo’s, where we would enjoy the lunch time specials on a regular basis with some close friends. But a couple of years ago, after getting tired of virtually the same menu for ever so long, we decided not to renew our membership.
Today we thought that we would lunch there for the first time in quite a while and took a risk by just showing up in the hope of a free table. We noticed that the restaurant had taken on a new style with full table cloth service and a more up market menu. We were shown to a nice table near the window, still with magnificent views of the Manning. This was quite a pleasant surprise as tables anywhere in the club used to be at a premium and booking was a must. However even with such a nice table, for some unknown reason we felt uncomfortable.
We were too far away to read the blackboard specials, but were pleasantly enthused when we were told that the roast of the day was beef. This would be a special day as with one or two exceptions, just about every eating place we go to lately for some unknown reason has pork, an extreme allergy, as the roast of the day.
A well presented meal was served to our table which we really looked forward to enjoying. However it was all spoilt by extremely tough slices of beef and greasy veges. A huge disappointment! However everyone deserves a second chance and given the club’s reputation, in time we will be returning to check out some of the new menu items and hope for a more...
Read moreWent to the Sailos today for the first-time in many years. We were in a party of 10 so we spent quite a significant amount of money. While the meal was pretty good the attitude of one of the bar staff to my great nephew was totally unacceptable. He is a young boy who has Down Syndrome. His behaviour was absolutely impeccable and we were all having a lovely family lunch until one of women from the bar came over and very unpolitely told us to 'remove the young fellows hat'!!!! This was a lovely little hat (not a cap) and it is a part of who he is. I could understand if this was an RSL Club especially on Anzac Day but it wasn't. When you let some other guests in that have ditry short (very short) denim shorts on with a shoe string strap top on and covered in tattoos (not that that's a crime) but she certainly wasn't dressed appropriately for a lunch at a club, and you have the hide to insult us by asking a young boy to take his hat off!!!! I certainly hope you see this and feel ashamed of yourself for treating someone who can't help the way they are, with such rudeness and disrespect. I know 10 people who likely won't return to your establishment. By the way, I was unable to find any notices about dress codes, in...
Read more5 people at our table. One order was for a steak with chips and salad OR mash and vegetables, he opted for the mash and vegetables and was charged an extra $4.another order was the beef salad, it was drowning in a very overly done vinegar dressing and supposed to be wagyu beef ,tough as old boots.another order was the salt and pepper squid salad.again overdone with vinegar far too much lettuce and deep fried frozen squid.fishermans basket was another order , not enough dressing dry as a bone, chips were just as dry and the lousy piece of fish wasn't good either. For the prices charged here these meals were less than ordinary. Oh I nearly forgot an entree of 1 dozen oysters Killpatrick at $40. don't know about kill Patrick but the Birthday lady nearly choked on them. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
