Metro Diner Taree — Restaurant in Taree

Have been coming to this dinner since it opened, was my families favourite restaurant. Brought my daughter here for her birthday lunch today. We ordered 2x Caesar salads and some chips. We started eating when we noticed that my daughter’s chicken was pink in the middle. We let them know they took it back then came back and told us that it was cooked and that it was just fat. I informed her that I have never seen clear pink fat but she said yes it does happen. They made my daughter a new salad, and continue to try to convince us that the pink clear chicken was normal and that next time we should ask for it cooked more/longer. But by this time we were scared to eat our salads and my daughter didn’t eat the new salad. Who wants to be sick especially on your birthday. We felt embarrassed and upset staff were making us feel like it was our fault. We had been polite throughout this encounter. We went to the counter and was charged full price. Hopefully the amount we did it does not made us ill. So disappointed will not be coming back again :(

So you’re telling me that a whole chicken or thigh filet piece all cooks through at the same time as other pieces? It doesn’t matter how many salads we ordered as you know that piece was uncooked. And like I said in the above review . Me and my family have been coming to your dinner for years, and was a fantastic place we have never had an issue till now. And yes I’m very disappointed I had to pay for a meal that we did not eat. Me and my daughter didn’t feel comfortable in your dinner and scared to eat the food. I tried to talk to you one of the staff about the meal and chicken and she didn’t want to hear my concerns only wanted to tell me I was wrong and the chicken was fine. And the treatment of us at your dinner and your response here shows you lack of understanding for your customers. You say that it was never your intention to make us feel uncomfortable but in fact your staff member did. And we are extremely sad and sorry as we truly loved...

Really nice cafe with a very cute theme in the heart of Taree.

Visited after a terrible night's sleep at a local motel, and was greeted by really lovely, welcoming waitstaff.

The iced coffee (sans the condensed milk) was great, and my BLT with garlic aioli was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My partner had the pancakes (+ two perfect sunny-side up eggs), a mango and banana smoothie, and we also ordered the french toast to share. The portions weren't ginormous, but definitely enough to fortify us for the day ahead.

The young redhaired woman who served us was really great, and proactively sought feedback if my special-order coffee wasn't good.

The only thing I'd improve was that one piece of the french toast was a bit underdone, and it was served with chocolate powder instead of cinnamon sugar, and the pancakes and french toast are served with whipped cream instead of butter. Definitely worth a revisit when we're back in the...

The food and atmosphere were ok(ish), but the customer service was shockingly bad. The staff member who served us was incredibly grumpy, which alone would have earned a lower rating.

However, after seeing another review mentioning they had been regularly overcharged, we decided to double-check our bill. Sure enough, the total should have been $40.50, but we were charged $42.00. When we questioned it, we still ended up paying $41.50 just to avoid a further argument in public (essentially tipping $1.50 for bad service).

Honestly, I’d normally leave a generous tip for good service, but this experience was disappointing. At least we got a funny story out of it to tell our friends and family! :)
