Unfortunately from the start our experience was soured…. We arrived on time to our booking. As we tried to enter the doors were quite stiff I thought the restaurant hadn't opened yet perhaps as we could see the manager looking at us from the inside. We waited a few moments and no one came so we eventually attempted again using more force the door opened but realised the manager hadn't bothered to simply motion to us to push harder. We were then seated but not by the water as I specifically asked for when I booked the prior day but we could see the water so whatever I guess. We ordered 2 drinks 2 wood-fired breads we paid for 2 plates of the fish as one was spoiled by a spilt drink (my bad) 1 Taramasalata a half dozen oysters and the sweat potatos. We had eaten earlier so were indecisive about how much to order little did we know this restaurant scolds its customers for not ordering a sufficient number of plates as we were asking the waitress what else would be good with the bread she returned saying “we cant keep ordering separately as is disturbs the kitchens schedule” we were taken aback as I had never heard of a restaurant unable to take multiple orders and in this case apparently unable to accommodate an extra side of dip and were given a last chance to place an order my mate and I were immediately put off as we got the vibe we were being judged for being I guess stingy? I truly thought that not to be the case but on the way home my mate checked the reviews and found similar complaints all but confirming our suspicion its just no way to run a business and fair enough if we didn't order enough at first but we did order a decent amount 237$ worth of food and would have ordered minimum 2 more rounds of drinks if not for the pretentious restaurant policy. I do give credit to our waitress she was lovely and only repeating what the manager had instructed her to say and lastly the tables I specifically asked to be seated at by the water remained empty the entire duration of our time at the restaurant…. Would...
Read moreso close to being something amazing- but there were definitely a few short comings. the atmosphere is beautiful and staff were lovely, but after ordering our first round of drinks the waiter took away the drinks menu, which we had to ask for back when we next wanted a drink. this made us hesitant to order more drinks. the drinks menu itself isn’t the best we’ve had and doesn’t have any specialty tap beers like most restaurants up the coast. the food itself was pricey, but good. the scallops were definitely a let down, and at $24 for two you’d want them to be pretty good. they were small and lacked much flavour, with most of the flavour coming from the tomato butter. after seeing others say this was their favourite dish, i was pretty unimpressed. however the bread and taramasalata was amazing. the real let down was the basque brulee cheesecake with passion fruit. the cheesecake itself was not super creamy, and when eating it the shards from the brulee would hurt my mouth and then the super acidic, tangy passion fruit would make it sting. the passionfruit sauce was so incredibly sour and strong that it honestly ruined it for me. this dish could be much better if served with a scoop of vanilla gelato or cream as the cheesecake itself was just missing that creaminess. the tiramisu was ok, definitely not the best but still good. it needed to be powdered with cacao rather than the chocolate powder that had sugar crystals in it as it honestly ruined the texture (i’m going to guess by taste it is lindt chocolate powder). overall staff were nice, food was mostly good and the restaurant itself is gorgeous. there’s so many beautiful little details down to the customised “pelis” plates, glasses and coasters. i’m not rushing back, but will definitely consider this place for an event/larger group as it is very expensive as a table of two due to the sharing-nature...
Read moreI don’t like to write negative reviews, but I have to be honest. We arrived at the restaurant five minutes early at 4:55. The door was closed and the staff were cleaning. The decor was lovely and the staff were welcoming. We thought we might grab a couple of cocktails, but unfortunately they didn’t seem able to make the cocktails. We settled for wine. We had a few really delicious entrees and we thought wow! We were however surprised when they didn’t plan on changing plates or cutlery between course or even change glasses between wines. The mains came. We shared the chicken and the pork and were surprised by the oily schnitzel chop which seemed a bit pedestrian. The restaurant had also filled up and the ambience was slowly eroded by the cafeteria like noise. We were hoping to linger and enjoy dessert and maybe another drink but our wait staff told us that we had to be out at 7pm. This added to the pedestrian vibe reminiscent of SumYungGuys where we were rushed through like we are just sheep to the slaughter. We were sent to the front to pay (cafeteria) and then were made to wait while the maitre’d showed another patron to their table while we waited (despite them arriving at the desk after us). We went next door to Lucios which was like a breath of fresh ambiance and had lovely cocktails and desserts on the veranda overlooking the river. The staff at Lucios were friendly attentive...
