Recommended dishes: Ocean Roll and Wagyu Roll.
Food: 5/5 Delicious because we asked them to put less sauce in the actual sushi roll; we asked for the sauce to be on the side instead so we can opt to dip the sushi in if we would like to. We find many Australian sushi places tend to put too much sauce on or inside the sushi rolls which overpowers the ingredients such as the raw salmon or fish roe, or the wagyu.
Lots of vegetarian friendly options too.
Atmosphere: Lacking in Japanese etiquette. Eg greeting when entering and exiting the restaurant.
Service (including bills) Poor service by the person at the front. The menu clearly says $22 per roll but he insisted in charging us $22.50 per roll. This is misleading and deceptive conduct. However, I'm putting the score slightly higher as the other service by the other Asians in the store was a lot more hospitable, considerate and attentative.
Overall, although I want to rate this restaurant a 1 out of 5 stars due to bad bill servive time, I will rate this a 3 out of 5. We need more Japanese/sushi restaurants in the south coast. Australia has plenty of fresh and delicious seafood. Let's see more sashimi and sushi...
Read moreOn our recent trip to Ulladulla we visited Tanoshi twice. The first visit was great, food delicious and fast. On our second visit, it was a completely different experience. We had to sit outside and order from the take away. I enquired if we could sit inside when a table became available as it was blowing a gale outside and take away containers being blown away. The gentleman that I spoke to seemed happy to assist. However when the table became available the young female waitress said “no, we’ve already wiped the table down” and ready to close which was still 40 mins to go. It astounds me that customer service can be so far from someone’s mind when working in hospitality. Her further response was “you should have come earlier” having my 70+ mother weigh us and saying it’s so windy outside we will be finished by closing was still met with a no. I think when hiring staff they need to understand what the hospitality industry entails and what the word “HOSPITABLE” means. Really disappointed as it could have been such a different experience with...
Read moreI'm giving them two because of Covid, other wise 1. I've eaten in previously and it was good. The bento wagyu beef t/a today was the worst I've ever had. Spring rolls with no filling, beef that had been cooked first thing and sat all day, carrots and a little veg had also sat all day. No rice. A whole compartment of ginger, practically nothing to eat it with. And service, what service. I checked in at the door, the sign said wait here. So I did. The guy on the counter walked out passed me with a take away order, walked back in and called me from the back of the shop as if I should have just gone straight to the counter. Very disappointed Such a shame that the Indian upstairs went to Melbourne, service exceptionally good, best Indian I've ever eaten... But we can't get into Melbourne with lockdown. What a shame... I forgot the salad / slaw was floating around in the same compartment as the beef! Need I...
