The Bay Leaf Authentic Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Ulladulla

We went as a family of 4 on Easter Saturday for dinner and sat at the front table near the window with lovely glimpses of the ocean and boats. The restaurant itself is quite small and a little noisy and the decor etc is very basic it lacks a little atmosphere, the staff were very friendly and run off their feet between dealing with a line out the door for takeaway meals and the constant turning over of dinners, it was a very busy place so good to see the local business doing well. The food arrived in good time and is served in very basic white bowls etc nothing to pretentious or flashy. We had butter chicken which was delicious and plain rice was cooked perfectly, we also had Beef Vindaloo which was cooked beautifully with a rich full bodied complex flavour and excellent texture, the lamb cutlets tandoori style were sweet and perfectly cooked served with a minted yoghurt, the Palak paneer was so authentic and tasty with good size cubes of cheese and the spinach was full of flavour,the fresh naan bread was absolutely the best I have had. Sauce galore, stock up on rice or naan. The cooks need to have a look at the cookbook again when it comes to korma. Most shocking version I have tried. I understand country take aways are never like the city or suburbs, but compare this with some Indian restaurants in the back end of NSW this is very very lost. When I turned up to pick up my order and saw “and cafe” after its name I already knew I was in for a flop of a dinner. If a Indian restaurant needs to prop itself up with a cafe there is clearly a problem. Disappointing in response to the response from the owner I don’t need to start a consulting business as my core business is working just fine and don’t need to prop it up with add ons. I HOPE I CAN GIVE THEM 0 STARS. ORDERED TWO DAL MAKHNI OVER THE PHONE FOR TAKE AWAY ORDER. WHEN I CALLED I WAS TOLD BY STAFF THAT I TWILL TAKE 45 MINUTES I SAID THATS OK AS I AM NOT IN RUSH. I PICKED UP MY ORDER AFTER ONE HOUR BUT AFTER BRINGING HOME FOUND BOTH OF CONTAINERS WERE FILLED WITH DAL ONLY UP TO 75% OF CONTAINER CAPACITY. I THOUGHT ITS OK BUT WHEN WE ATE DAL IT WAS TOTALLY UNCOOKED . LOOKS LIKE IT WAS COOKED WITHOUT SOAKING IT OVERNIGHT. I CALLED RESTAURANT TO GIVE THEM MY FEED BACK . BUT WHEN I WAS TALKING WITH GIRL OVER THE PHONE CHEF TOOK PHONE OFF HER AND SAID THAT HE HAS AN 25 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AS CHEF AND LITERALLY SAID AS....HOLE TO ME OVER THE PHONE . SUCH A AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR IS NOT TOLERABLE. PLEASE AVOID THIS RESTAURAN AS THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO COOK AND HOW TO TALK...
