Babas Kitchen is very unassuming from the front and the interior decor is simple and pretty authentic. The restaurant isn't heated much, so bring a jumper. The prices were reasonable and as the restaurant isn't busy for dine-in, I guess you have to keep costs down. The staff were very friendly and really easy to communicate with. The star of the show is the food though! (As you'd hope! )
The complimentary papadums were light and crispy. We ordered Fish Pakora as a starter, and having never had it before, asked if it was spicy. The answer was that she would be making it fresh and so can make it however we liked! It was amazingly tasty and we would definitely have it again. The spices were flavoursome but not too spicy.
For main we ordered Mango chicken and Malay Chicken, and asked for both to be mild. They were mild and delicious. We also had Zika rice and plain naans, and the rice was really nicely flavoured.
The food was really good and there was plenty of it. The service was prompt too.
We have been to many more fancy and expensive restaurants in Melbourne and overseas, and the food here is just as good.
We would happily take friends to eat here if we have the opportunity. This was our...
Read moreUnfortunately yesterday(Friday 17th January 2025. My neighbour got food poisoning from the Lamb Korma. I couldn't eat it, cause as soon as I opened lid, I smelt an "off" smell, and I just couldn't, I threw my half in bin. I also got Mango chicken curry, not even a tiny taste of mango in it at all. It was just a hot curry, which is not what I wanted. The only thing edible, was the plain rice and the mango lassi drink. $66 spent, and was inedible. When we first walked in last night, about 8pm. A lady started to serve us, but then walked off and didn't return because my neighbour was looking at what to order, so I rang bell, and got served by a lovely man. He was great. We have eaten here before, I ordered same things, but it was nothing like first time we came. The lamb karma was 100% off meat, it smelt that bad, I thought they'd put a heap of parmessan cheese in it. So I must admit, I can't eat here a third time now, cause I basically threw $66 in the bin. I'm sorry I have to leave this review, but my neighbour is still sick, and that was all we had eaten yesterday, so we know it was the korma, because I eat Indian food ALL the time, but never smelt a Korma that smelt rotten...

REVIEW: Had such a great, accommodating experience here. We booked a month in advance for 15 people. They rearranged their little diner to fit us all on one side, and on the night they turned customers away because I overheard the "chef was busy".
The level of dedicated service was much appreciated by us - as we got our food in a timely manner. Especially for a large group like us! Although the lady was appreciative of us stopping by, we were grateful to have her and her hospitality for the night.
Their food is pretty good and very homely. Worth stopping by Baba's Kitchen because...
