Cafe 153 — Restaurant in Victoria

I had the Fat Brat and my partner had the Seafood Chowder. I would 100% NOT reccomend ordering either of these dishes. The fat brat came with an apple chutney and what I can only guess was a tomato chilli jam and mustard on the side. This should have been really nice and while the sausage and bread was, the apple chutney was seasoned with something I couldn't distinguish and clashed horribly with the apple and the meat. The tomato chilli jam(?) was too sweet with the sausage as well. Needed something acidic to balance the fattiness of the meat. Maybe if they made the apple chutney into more of an apple cider vinegar flavor it could have been nice. As for the seafood chowder, my partner described it as tasting as though it came from a can. It had very little seafood flavour and nothing exciting in term of actually seafood (all rather bland things like basa). For something rather expensive ($35.00) I don't think it's asking much for a seafood dish to taste like seafood. Given they have a rather decent overall rating, perhaps they have other foods worth ordering but I would not be back to risk getting this kind...

Everything is “too hard” The only thing this cafe has going for it is excellent location and great coffee (ordered a mocha)… besides that, the customer service from the manager/owner woman is poor (rest of staff friendly) and food was very average. When ordering a big brekky, we were told sorry we’re out of sausages so do you want extra bacon. Yes no problem extra bacon is fine. Then when we say no tomato but just a few extra mushrooms instead (they’re the same price on the sides) but no of course that’s too hard that will be extra $$$ and too hard for kitchen to think about changing it. Strange considering it’s such a simple request and they’re the same price. Very disappointing. We were then still waiting for our breakfast to come out for a while and they are turning people away at 11.45am saying sorry we are closed despite their hours saying they are open until 2pm? Maybe due to them running out of ingredients…? Not very good business and very disorganised. Overall, a very disappointing visit to this cafe and for the remainder of our stay here in Apollo Bay I think we will try...

Food was average. Apparently the drinks were nice but I never got to have my drink because I'm lactose intolerant and when my partner ordered, he asked for a soy hot chocolate but they put through a normal hot chocolate instead. When I said I can't have that one cuz I can't drink dairy milk, the waitress said oh the drinks already made, if you want soy milk you're gonna have to pay for another one. Same thing happened to the sourdough toast I ordered. On the menu they didn't say anything about butter being on the toast so I ordered it, when they came out with butter on top, we had to order another serving and it was burnt and dry. The jam was not enough for how much toast there was and it didn't taste that nice either. I asked to have my drink refunded because I couldn't drink any of it. The waitress went in to ask if that was possible, 10 minutes later another one came out with the refund but said we don't normally do this because the food was already made. That is just not right, that's not how you should...
