Cumberland Hotel — Restaurant in Victoria

Walked in just after 12pm. Ordered 3 adult meals and 2 kids meals. Took 30mins for kids food and 1hr for ours to arrive. Forgivable as the meals were cooked well and presented beautifully with generous portions. HOWEVER I ordered a scotch fillet, but was presented with a porterhouse. Wouldn’t have minded as nicely cooked, except I paid $7 more for a scotch! No explanation given for the change of cut too. Service wasn’t the best; the waitress who took the order didn’t offer any of the options ie mushroom or garlic sauce etc, which would’ve been preferred over the gravy which was unfortunately tasteless. Or whether the kids meals were to include either salad or cooked veggies. It comes with neither if not requested, however we did not know this until afterwards. And that the kids desserts were also a choice between frog in the pond or ice cream sundaes, instead of assuming our choice. Also, ordered apple juices for the kids that had mildewed tops where the bottle cap screws on! A bit more attention to detail and service would have given you more stars and repeat customers! Worst dining experience. Went for Mothers Day lunch with family (8 adults, 1child). Meals all ordered with 5 minutes of each other, yet from first to last mains was a 50 minute wait. Meals ordered with chips and salad came out with cookee vegies and chips. One member of the group is vegan. Shortly after ordering their SOLE vegan option they were inforned the kitchen had run out of vegan burgers. The guest went up to speak to the chef, it was agreed a vegan linguine pasta dish could be made up. After waiting over an hour, a waitress was asked to check as everyone else had a meal (half had finished given how far apart the mains were served). Waitress comes back to say no vegan meal. We explained we knew there was no vegan burger but that the chef was making something else up. Staff explained nothing else had been prepared. Then we had to ASK for a refund for a meal we had not received. This used to be a great venue. Not anymore, this family will...

The lady at the cash register was not pleasant. Upon saying that I would like the Pasta dish she said ...which one ? I pointed out to her that unless she told me what the choices were, I could not say. She then put a piece of paper in front of me in not a pleasant manner. I ordered a glass of wine which she could have brought to the table since I was very close to the bar and I am elderly man ,and there was no one waiting, but no. All in all, not a pleasant experience. Frustrated also when I see people not apparently suited for their employment.
