Midnight Starling — Restaurant in Victoria

One of the worst dining experiences I have had from start to finish. We were seated by the front door, with people brushing past us and bursts of cold air anytime the door was opened. Other tables looked like they had good service and conversations with the owner, we however, were not extended such courtesy. Our server was polite and efficient, but not very personable. Food was incredibly overpriced for the size of portions, with basic sides such as a bowl of steamed veges costing around $10 and no accompaniments included in any dishes (if you get the duck, there will be only duck on the plate). An outstanding dining experience! A true French bistro experience starting from the moment you enter, creating the perfect aesthetic.

The service is both relaxed and unpretentious, welcoming without being overly familiar.

‘Starling’ provides an eclectic musical backdrop that compliments, rather than detracts from, the dining experience.

The menu while not ‘extensive’ offers a quintessentially French dining experience, elegant and sophisticated without pretension while the wine list offers a concise selection of Australian, French and Italian wines.

Danielle (Danni) and Steve (the Owner and Chef) are to be applauded for their excellent hospitality, knowledge and style, front and back of house.

My partner and I dined here last weekend. After many months in lock down, we were very excited to dine out. It was a very nice space and atmosphere. Classic french style. The other guests appeared to be enjoying the experience as well. The food was fantastic, and the matching wines were a great compliment. Especially the Riesling! The food came out in good time and our waitress was very friendly. She was happy to chat with us near the end of the service. There was nothing to fault really and we would happily go back.
