I visited Grist today, and while there were some bright spots, the experience was unfortunately marred by a couple of issues.

The offerings in the cabinet were eye-catching, and the cheese and bacon pie we tried had a great flavor. However, the lid didn’t hold the filling as well as it could have, making it a bit messy to eat. This might have been more manageable had we been able to sit inside and enjoy it properly.

While the staff were friendly and welcoming, the advice about available seating seemed off. Despite still having an hour and a half before closing and several clear tables, we were told we couldn’t sit inside to eat. This was especially confusing as people were still dining inside, and some tables had only been partially cleared. After eating outside in the strong wind, it felt frustrating, as we were left wondering why we couldn’t have stayed inside. This lack of communication definitely impacted our experience.

I’d recommend the staff rethink how they handle seating decisions to better align with the environment and the needs of their patrons.

On a positive note, the apple crumble tartlet we grabbed to go was fantastic and made for a lovely snack later in the day.

Overall, while I’d visit Grist again, I’d likely opt for takeaway rather than a sit-down meal, which would likely result in a smaller purchase. As part of my pie trail journey to explore regional Victoria, first impressions matter — and unfortunately, this one left me hesitant to return for a...

Like others have mentioned in their reviews I get frustrated when a bakery sells what is quite obviously sandwiches or any other goods that are old. I have been here in the past and eaten some great pies and other good pastry delights but this morning around 10.00am I called in to grab a sandwich for a 10km country walk. Chose the Egg and Bacon sandwich and stupidly presumed it would be fresh. It was stale and inedible. Upon reading other reviews it seems that Grist think it's Ok to sell a sandwich the next day as long as they keep it in the fridge. Grist need to go back to school and learn the term FRESH - freshly made, same day lovelyness. If you signed the sandwiches - These were made over 24 hours ago - no one would buy them. Won't be back. Be honest about what you have on offer. Waste of my...

Easily the best pasties we’ve ever had! In a location that you could easily miss and drive past, we stumbled across this bakery a while back. We have been here many times since and they have always impressed us. Our order, as usual, was for Vegetable Pasties. The pastry is flaky with a perfect consistency. And with some places the filling to pastry ratio can be out but they absolutely nail it here with so much filling! And the vegetables!! Big chunky roasted vegetables that are absolutely delicious - you can tell that they are prepared especially for the pasties. So glad that they continue to shine - we’ll see you again for sure!

Note: They also have an option to grab their baked goods cold, so we grabbed four extra pasties to heat...

Really authentic shop for this bakery with an impressive selection of pastries that look too good to ignore. The vanilla slice was really good with fresh pastry and flavourful cream. They are so big you can do two servings with it. Rye bread was good too. Didn't find the eclair that special. Hot cross buns dried out very quickly. The spanakopita was disappointing. Coffee just okay. It's annoying that prices are not clearly displayed with the products. Overall this bakery is worth a detour from the freeway.
