The Green Olive — Restaurant in Victoria

My friend and I had lunch here on a Saturday, we looked at several places before deciding on The Green Olive, we chose them initially because of their menu choices and prices but once we walked in the door we were both pleased that it was also clean and not cramped. We were greeted by Amanda and Kiara who were both friendly and polite, my friend likes very simple food and asked for a dish to be adapted to her own liking, as we’d had mixed reactions from the other places we had looked at we were expecting a scoff and a no but these lovely people could not have been more accommodating. The chef went out of his way to make my friend food that she had requested to be made off the menu without any fuss. I could not have been more impressed with their hospitality.

I highly recommend The Green Olive, the food is both delicious and fresh, with large portions. My eggs were poached perfectly! It’s reasonably priced, clean and comfortable with happy welcoming people. The menu selection is also great, I had trouble deciding which dish I wanted to try more as they all sounded delicious. I will definitely be returning to try the shakshuska a perfect menu listing for a cold winter day! I will be recommending The Green Olive to everyone and I recommend it to you too! It was my third trip to Bendigo, the last few meals that I had here were pretty good. But the meal at this cafe was not as good as I expected. Firstly, when we went into the cafe, three staffs were busy working, so no one led us to the table. That was weird, but we could understand. But then one of the staff told us to take the menu and find a table. Though it s a tiny detail but the menus are just in front of her and this is definitely the first time that I was required to take the menu by ourselves instead of handed to us. I won't complain these tiny things if the meal was good. The coffee, I ordered a latte which is the thing I enjoyed the most- but far from a great coffee, in this meal. The mushroom risotto we ordered was way toooooo plain, just few pieces of mushrooms and mix with cheese and I need to add salt in it a couple times to make sure I can taste something! The salmon and avocado pizza was... hard to explain, simply just something we don't enjoy. At last we spent 40bucks on something we don't even enjoy, I can tell from other comments that there are people who like this cafe, so I really hope that it just an accident. Hope you can improve yourself and don't fail the customers who like you. But I don't think I will visit...

To the owner - No I am not thinking of a different shop. You just took it off the menu. I hope you take this criticism as an opportunity to be better for the community you serve.

2023: Mushroom medley had 1 mushroom sliced on one piece of cheap white bread burnt on one side with the thinnest smear of green I assume was avocado... $17. Not worth $5. The salads are drowned in balsamic vinegar with a full cm at the bottom of the bowl. Awful food. Won't be back while that chef remains. McDonald's is better quality. The staff was nice and the coffee passable but food is terrible.
