Let’s start the review with the fact I only eat meat.. have been like that for 2 years.. so I can only comment on the meat served here - this was my second time here both times I got the 1kg rump rare with nothing else no chips or salad (my choice)

Cooking a rump rare that size can be challenging but they have nailed it 2/2 times I’ve ordered.. perfectly salted and not covered in seed oil.

Not cheap but honestly eating red meat out these days is never cheap.. the meal is expensive before it even gets put on the grill. So it’s not that the place is overpriced at all - but just don’t expect red meat meal these days under 30 bucks.

Port fairy is a over busy town on weekends and this imo is the best place in town to eat - so book and be prepared to have a wait for your food if your here on any kind of public holiday weekend either SA or VIC - again not the pubs fault you can’t expect a pub to cater for crowds like that permanently when they are only during the long weekends..

So as for the others reviewed that complained about being told it’s a 90min wait on food before they had even got a table… like come on dude what was the pub going to do ? Lie to you and still make you wait 90min ? I liked the fact they told you that before your order..

Anyhow I’ve now been here for busy time and normal time - and during a normal night I had my steak in 10 mins… and to be fair my wait on the weekend was less then 40min and it was totally booked out even the outside so really...

Very disappointed in our meal service at The Stump last night. Family of 6, having a farewell dinner , as we the grandparents, were leaving Port Fairy, after having stayed there, house sitting as well as staying with our family for the past 4 months. Our table was booked for 6 pm, our first meals didn't arrive until 7.20pm. Then the meals arrived randomly, 1 meal, then nothing ,then a second meal 10 minutes later, then another 10 minutes after that and that was a child's meal. There were 3 of us left waiting and waiting for our meals. We approached one of the wait staff and she said we are sorry but we are very busy. Finally the 3 remaing meals arrived at 7.45 pm. What really upset us was, tables that were seated well after us, were getting their meals, and all at the same time and we were still waiting for ours. We could see the kitchen from our table, and it looked like total chaos. (We were thinking of leaving and heading to the local fish and chip shop). When we did finally get our 3 remaining meals, the food was very good but the enjoyment of sharing a farewell family meal was lost.Just get your act together and get tables feed on time, at the same time. We won't be going back...

Fantastic Dining Experience at The Stump Restaurant

My visit to The Stump Restaurant in Port Fairy was nothing short of delightful. I stopped by for a gin and tonic, along with some pub-style wedges, and I was thoroughly impressed.

The restaurant offers ample space with plenty of seating options both indoors and outdoors, making it a comfortable and inviting place to dine. It was clear that The Stump is a favourite among locals, as the atmosphere was buzzing with activity.

What stood out to me the most was the exceptional service I received. Despite dropping in a little after lunch, the staff still managed to accommodate me with professionalism and politeness. Their willingness to go the extra mile truly made my experience memorable.

Overall, I highly recommend The Stump Restaurant to anyone visiting Port Fairy. Whether you're looking for a casual drink or a satisfying meal, you're sure to be impressed by the food, atmosphere,...

I was recommended by a local to give this place a go.....so I obliged. I ordered a medium cooked Black Angus Porterhouse Steak with Garlic Prawn Sauce. It was a cold Monday night, and this establishment was 3/4 full of patrons, which is impressive! Food took 25 mins to come out, which was perfectly reasonable. Now the food...... The Steak was well cooked, medium just how I like it, but the grain of the beef was a little stringy....not enough quality for $40. The chips were perfectly cooked, but the salad was quite standard. The sauce was beautiful with a punchy garlic flavour, softened by a light creamy textute. Desert was a not so stick date pudding with a good butterscotch sauce. The texture had more of a sponge cake feel but not unpleasant. All in all, it wasn't a bad meal, although the quality of beef needs improvement.⭐️⭐️⭐️

$64 for 2 X chicken Kiev that for some reason came smothered in a creamy garlic sauce that was actually better than the garlic inside the chicken..one meal was with mashed potato the other without, both came out with a paddock of pumpkin and sweet potato...and no mash for me.... ( Pretty sure rabbits would have had a feast.)... hubby's chicken dry as...mine was better but crumbs over cooked to nearly burnt, service was good, nothing special.... Wouldn't rush back.. ...
