THIS PLACE IS FILTHY. STAY AWAY. 🤮🚫

We traveled as a couple, and our stay was a complete NIGHTMARE. We checked in, and immediately noticed something off—BED BUGS. 🪲 They were crawling all over the bed. We got bitten all night long, and we couldn’t even sleep. It was absolutely disgusting. 😡

We tried to go to the reception to report it, but the staff couldn’t care less. No apology, no help, NOTHING. We felt completely ignored. 😤 The place was a total health hazard, and we couldn’t take it any longer. We packed up and had to sleep in our car because the room was UNBEARABLE.

We brought the bed bugs back with us. Tried everything to get rid of them—sprays, treatments, nothing worked. Now we’re dealing with the aftermath. We feel disgusting just thinking about it. It’s so frustrating, and this place should be shut down for being so filthy.

DO NOT STAY HERE! BED BUG INFESTATION and the worst service ever. You’ll regret it if you do. Trust me. 🛑

If I could give it negative stars, I would. Completely ruined our trip. STAY AWAY from this...

Warning: Bed Bugs Infestation

I stayed at this hostel recently and had a horrific experience with bed bugs. The condition of the room was filthy, and I woke up with multiple bites all over my body. I’ve never experienced such poor hygiene, and I strongly advise anyone considering this place to think twice.

When I left this review, the hostel immediately responded by claiming it was a fraudulent review, but I can assure you, I stayed there and encountered the bed bugs first-hand. I even have photos as evidence. The management’s response to my concerns was dismissive and unprofessional. They also claimed they have no records of my stay, which is not only misleading but suggests they don’t take customer feedback seriously.

This is not a baseless complaint. This place has serious issues with cleanliness, and I want to make sure others don’t face the same unpleasant experience I did. I’m sharing this review to prevent others from staying in a place with such a major infestation problem. Please avoid...

YHA portland is the oldest YHA in Straya! It's a lovely place next to the main street, so easily accessible. Plenty of street parking available. The building is lovely with a wonderful courtyard. We stayed in the family room that can easily accommodate 6, with enquire bathroom. Clean and beautiful. There is games room where our teenage girls enjoyed themselves to a game of pool, board games and puzzles. Plenty of books too. The kitchen is huge, but depends on people staying there to be considerate to share the 2 fridge and 1 chest freezer. Jennifer and the staff are awesome and very friendly. Always willing to help and share. It's a great place to stay and you can spend your time alone or mingle and chat with all the other...

The Wandering Whale is such a cozy and cute little hostel — it truly feels like being at your grandma’s house (in the best way possible!). The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and spend the evening inside, curled up by the fire with a board game and a cup of tea. Check-in and check-out were smooth and easy, and the kitchen is really well equipped — perfect for cooking your own meals and feeling right at home. On our second night, we even had the dorm to ourselves, which made it extra peaceful. A real pleasure to stay here. Highly recommend if you’re after comfort, charm, and a relaxed vibe.

Had a great time staying at the YHA at Port Fairy! It's in a heritage building which makes it a pretty cool stay. It's close to the wharf and the main town, making it easy to navigate the place. Jess was most helpful throughout my journey, from communication pre-arrival, helping me with early check-in, and heaps of recommendations and local tips that were great in trip planning. There's also a very friendly dog on the property, which is just a massive bonus to me :) The WiFi doesn't reach the room, but didn't really matter to me

The cosiest and loveliest hostel - we were upgraded to a private room from the anticipated 8 bed dorm and had a delightful stay. The kitchen was clean and well respected by other guests, bathrooms were lovely and spacious, room was cosy with thick duvet and blankets and hot water bottles if cold, and the whole place had just been repainted and had a really nice feel to it. We felt so welcomed and loved meeting Wilbur. Couldn’t recommend more!
