Travelling through the ol’ wang after hearing about the generously sized portions of the Pinsent Hotel and decided to pop in and get ourselves a large, adequacy priced meal. Lo and behold, we were shattered to be on the receiving end of some upsettingly sized children’s meals, given the family was rather famished from our long and tiring travels. My son was particularly upset because of his size he requires a fair amount of sustenance, otherwise he can become quite irate. To spare a long story this meal wasn’t one without tears, as when the boy had made the shocking discovery of his portion size his hunger completely possessed him with anguish. Far be it for me to not get to the point of a restaurant review, so I wish to move onto the topic of the rather offensive amenities. History would tell us that these particular bathrooms were somewhat of a cornerstone of the end to end Pinset dining experience, one where people are comfortable using these facilities among other strangers without the need to be concerned with what went on in the cubicle before the visited. This feeling today was tragically not preserved. After sitting a round of drinks on the table I began to notice the aborent instability of the establishments dining setting. The teeter totter back and fourth of our drinks whilst sitting on the table was almost kafkaesque in its ability to lightly puke cold refreshments all over its top. Never have more tissues been used over a top cleanup than one on this particular day at the Wang. These tissues I must say where aptly dry and had.a particularly welcome thought alsmost sandpaper like texture to them, reminding me almost in a painful way of the establishments facilities. Part of the reason why this review is not as otherwise positive as I would have liked it to be, was because Of the weather in the afternoon, being rather miserable and wet. This only compounded the trauma of the wider dining experience. The day had started with rather blue skies and the family enjoyed that, though once it turned the vibe just felt different. Had the weather been not as poor as it eventuated we could have more likely had a successful feast and equitable transaction as one we as a family could have wished...
Read moreBooked a table for my partners birthday dinner whilst we were visiting Wangaratta from Sydney over the weekend. Should have realised the night wasnt going to go well when our booked table had been given to someone else. Got a table and the waitress was nice, took our whole order (drinks, main and dessert) and seemed pleasant. We ordered mocktails and the manager on duty brought them over and then started having a carry on over our daughter's age. We repeated several times they were mocktails, she even said the names of the drinks so knew they were not alcoholic. She finally understood or comprehended what the drinks were after going back and forth for a while. Then my meal arrived before the other 2. Around 5 mins later the other 2 meals arrived. Not many positives about the food. I had a tandoori chicken stack which was listed as a salad. I think the chicken tenderloin may have brushed past the tandoori seasoning because it was tasteless. The rosti was burnt and I'm not sure what is considered a salad in VIC but some wilted lettuce, 1 piece of cucumber, pea tendrils and half a cherry tomato doesn't cut it. My daughters carbonara was ok but came with some mystery ingredients (spongy stuff). My partners Chinese bbq pork and cashew stir fry was fresh but unfortunately it was a bowl of oil. We then waited and waited for our dessert, we were getting concerned when the kitchen were packing up. After waiting 45 mins for dessert we approached the register because enough was enough only to have the manager blame us for us not getting what we had ordered. Then when we pulled her up on it, she blamed her kitchen staff and then get wait staff. She was full of excuses and lacking an apology, a decent apology and not one dripping...
Read moreStayed 3 nights on a fact finding mission for the area. Was told I get 10% off meals because I'm staying. Go up order my dinner and get told by girl with broken arm that u have to make this clear at the start as she now has to start again(ouch) food was ok, not worth I payed even with the discount. Seasoned way to much, very Salty. Asked for onion rings as a side but got FOUR rings sitting on top. I stayed in Room 10, room itself was a good size with a great view of the air con ducts. the bathroom floor felt like a land mind maze, the wrong step and you could end up thru the floor. Shower is the size of a small coffin, and you get a great array of the temperatures offered from freezing to scalding and everything in between. Now the bed, a double bed that is as hard as year 10 algebra, sleep wasn't the normal comfort I am used to. Only ate at the 'food court' once due to my failings on day one, but did spend a few hours in the sports bar where I would rate Jack, 10/10- the way he interacts with a wide variety of clientele is brilliant, and no offence but he is probably wasted in this environment. the other lady who worked in the sports bar on Thursday night was also a very friendly and down to earth person which I like. Overall I enjoyed my stay, the rooms are slightly above average pub rooms, the hotel itself is magnificent, but needs more common areas for people that don't want to punt or play pokies, just have a drink..The rooms were great value at $70 a night and it was perfect for my requirements in Wangaratta and surrounding areas would probably stay again, but not sure ....
