I’ve really tried to give this place a fair chance, as I like to support independent, non-chain restaurants. Unfortunately, tonight was the third time I’ve ordered from Wembley Thai, and it was also the third time I’ve been left disappointed.
One positive is that you can order directly through their website’s app, which avoids the inflated prices on Uber Eats and Menulog. Ordering this way is much cheaper, which is definitely a plus.
This time I only ordered a small meal: Tom Yum Soup with tofu and vegetables, and the Satay Chicken sticks entrée. I arrived only a few minutes after placing the order, so it was no issue that it wasn’t quite ready yet. Service was reasonably quick, though not especially friendly and the food was packaged neatly in a sturdy paper bag. So far, so good.
The disappointment came when I opened the food. The satay chicken didn’t look or smell appetising at all — so much so that I couldn’t even bring myself to eat it. The sauce was packaged separately, but since I didn’t touch the chicken, I can’t comment on the flavour.
The Tom Yum soup looked fine, but the flavour was flat. It lacked the fragrant depth you expect from a freshly made Tom Yum. Instead, it tasted like a thin, chilli-heavy broth, similar to the instant packet versions from the supermarket. There was no richness, tang, or freshness that usually makes this dish such a standout.
I genuinely love Thai food and have enjoyed incredible versions of both Tom Yum and satay chicken elsewhere. A good Tom Yum should be aromatic, tangy, and complex. A great satay chicken should have nicely grilled, juicy skewers with a freshly made sauce and that extra flavour from the char. Sadly, Wembley Thai has fallen short on every visit I’ve made.
After trying different dishes on three separate occasions, I’ve realised the problem isn’t the particular meals I’ve chosen — it’s the restaurant itself. For that reason, I won’t be ordering from Wembley Thai again, and I can’t recommend...
Read moreGot a take away here last night. Very dissapointed. We watched meals go to tables and they looked good . First flag was seeing the white rice being heated in the microwave then served to tables .The serves we got were very small and still just under $20 each. The take away containers are also small and no where near full- they looked like what we would normally have left over. There were about 5 tiny pieces of chicken in one dish with a lot more liquid than we would normally see, the omelette covered about 1/3 of the container. Flavour overall was average but not the thai flavour we were expecting. 3 meals, 2 entrees cost $68. Not value for money. Very dissapointed. Still hungry. **have ammended comment re foil bowl. There is no way there were 6 eggs in the omelette and this order was for 2 people, with the expectation of left overs. Not a chance this would have fed 3, let alone 4 people. I am not the only person commenting on small portions. This is my honest review based on my experience. - maybe it was...
Read moreBring on the fire trucks. Someone must have struck chilli. I want what they had. Ours were neither spicy nor hot. Reminds me of asking for local hot in Singapore in my school boy accent. They started sweating, thinking I was a mad Englishman.
Back to Charm Thai Wembley. A smallish restaurant with a charming atmosphere. One wall adorns a great cultural mural, see photo. Outdoor seating is well sheltered, though still cold.
Foodwise, no complaint. The rice is fluffy, the beef is easy to chew, and the dishes are generally well flavoured. If you do like a bit of spice.... You might have to ask them to turn up the heat a bit. Careful as you might set off the fire trucks.
Seriously, the fire trucks did turn up, which was entertaining. I believe it's a design issue setting off the alarm. The ceiling is like a Bund...
