Captain Peters Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Western Australia

Iv been feeding my kids and myself , Captain Peter’s , it must be nearly 15 years I think . I never write reviews , but after reading the handful of negative reviews I felt the duty to defend the Captain , as a truly loyal customer of his , he has provided an old school , orginal style fish n chip shop ! It’s not pretty , it even has a smell of deep fried oil ! But the boss is the one cooking my fish , never have I witnessed the deep fryer attended by employees ! They control the phone and batter the fillets , but how often do you see the responsibility of what goes out , at an extremely reasonably price take away food , with the boss actually working before your eyes ! There is no where elsewhere that I can feed my four kids and myself for under $50 , and we all roll around bloated like pigs following ! Ive recently moved suburbs , and I still return to the Captain , as yes I know it’s not WA caught fish , but I can’t afford that fancy shit ! Nor do I notice the difference once it’s dripping in lemon juice !!

Anyway to the Captain , I Thankyou for the hospitality over the years , the generousity , and above all the good laughs we shared , as you aided in family memories I will share for ever with my kids !!

Im quite surprised at the many positive reviews and particularly after being recommended Capt Peters by a local friend. Maybe I hit a bad night but the food was forgettable to say the least. Admittedly well priced but that's before you taste what you have bought. The chips are crispy but have almost no substance and the fish is really woeful. We ordered some Red Emperor which seemed cheap at $12 a serve but when arriving at the store you realise you have bought imported fish (this means frozen). The portion is large but tasted unpleasantly fishy, so much so I threw it out. Scallops have nice flavour so points there. Quick service. Overall I wouldn't come back. I suggest ordering something local that might be fresh fish. Maybe the locals are happy with mediocrity. I was hoping for...

It was just a short walk from my Air bnb, and this place had great reviews, so I decided to give them a try. I ordered the WA shark, seafood stick and pineapple fritter. The quality of the food was fabulous, the batter light and crisp. The reason for the 3 stars however. There was no pineapple fritter. I wouldn't have minded so much if he didn't blatantly lie to my face. I approached the counter as 'Captain Peter' was wrapping my meal. He said, oh, the fritter is under the fish lol the fritter was NOT under the fish. Please, in the future 'Captain Peter', let us know you don't have a product, and we can choose another, so we are not disappointed when we unwrap our meal and discover something missing.
