A Hidden Gem of Authentic Chinese Cuisine in Churchlands

ShiWei is an absolute treasure for anyone who appreciates authentic, beautifully prepared Chinese cuisine. Tucked away in Churchlands, this restaurant delivers a dining experience that rivals the best in Perth — combining traditional flavours with modern presentation and outstanding hospitality.

From the first bite, it's clear that ShiWei uses top-quality ingredients and precise cooking techniques. Their signature dishes, like the crispy duck, sizzling hot plate beef, and mapo tofu, are bursting with bold, balanced flavours. Every dish is served fresh, piping hot, and with a stunning level of attention to detail.

The ambience is warm, clean, and welcoming — perfect for family dinners, friendly gatherings, or even casual date nights. The staff are friendly, attentive, and always happy to explain the menu or suggest dishes based on your preferences.

Portions are generous, prices are fair for the quality, and the menu offers a great variety of both spicy and mild options to suit every palate. Whether you're craving Sichuan spice or comforting stir-fries, ShiWei delivers time and time again.

If you're looking for truly delicious Chinese food in the western suburbs, ShiWei is a must-try. This local favourite deserves all the praise it gets — a consistently excellent experience...

Venue: easy street parking. Furnished in retro Chinese style. Formal dining setting but very packed in a small place. Open kitchen. Better to make reservations. A bit noisy. --- 7/10 Service: Tap water was provided when seated. Waitpersons were attentive and kept refilling water and clear our table for us. Food served fast. --- 7.4/10 Food: normal presentation. Smaller portion than other Chinese restaurants. Good quality. Higher price. Salt & Pepper Deep-fried Pork Chop, $27.5: bone on. Big chucks. Meat tender, but salt & pepper were separated with the meat. Thin slices, thick batter. --- 7/10 Mixed Chinese Vegetables & Bean Curd in Claypot, $19.5: average presentation, not colorful. Plain in flavor. There were 4 deep-fried bean curd, long beans, broccoli, cauliflower, green capsicum, carrot, black fugus, and mushrooms. Good for 4 or less.--- 7.2/10 Chinese style Beef, $26.5: pouring into sizzling plate when served at table. Beef was super tender, and well-cooked in medium well done. --- 7.5/10 Crispy Skin Chicken. $24.5: half chicken. Meat was succulent. Slightly crisp outside. --- 7.4/10 Steamed Rice, ~?3.5pp: served in a wooden bucket....

Terrible, terrible, terrible! Have now had two awful experiences here and will not be going back! The most recent visit, we were told they were fully booked. We waited for them to have a closer look at their reservations and they found a “temporary table” for us. We were not offered menus. After half an hour someone came to take our order, and finally realised we still had no menu. Once we finally ordered, we then waited about an hour and a half for our food, with many takeaway orders being prioritised before us. If we had known this we would’ve simply ordered takeaway rather than going to the effort of dining in! When the food came, the meat was HORRIBLE. The duck on the BBQ platter was 95% bones, the pork was overcooked, flavourless and dry. We were then overcharged and provided with no receipt breakdown of what they charged us for! We added up the items we ordered and it was far less than what we paid. What an absolute joke. Would strongly warn against trying this place. Extremely poor service, food and waiting times. Very...

Don’t come here if you have a big group. Booked dinner for 12 people at 6:30pm on a Friday night and the service was terrible. The servers themselves were friendly but the dishes came out in no order at all and we had to wait ten to fifteen minutes between certain dishes. They also forgot to cook one of our dishes. We had to remind them on more than three occasions. We waited for an hour for the last dish. A few dishes came after about a 15 minute wait, decent, and then the next couple came within 10 minutes. We had to remind them about the kids meals which took at least half an hour. The dishes themselves - mediocre at best. The clay pot tofu dish was about 10% tofu and 90% vegetables. Three vegetable dishes tasted exactly the same. The kids meals were huge portions which I can’t fault. The lamb and duck were decent enough, the spare ribs were delicious but had too intense of a flavour. Price wise, it was okay. Used to come here years ago, disappointed.

This restaurant started off well, we got their feed for two which was approx $29 each which came with an extremely generous amount of serving of delicious spring rolls, prawn crackers, honey chicken, special fried rice and tea, which was all really nice we also got beef satay however the beef texture and taste was not great and the quality of the meat felt fake and cheap, we did not enjoy the beef satay however everything else we enjoyed. We also ordered the banana fritter which was not bad we just wish it was cooked for longer as the batter was not crispy. The second time we got takeaway from here and once again we felt the same way about the food, however after eating we did not feel well and may have experienced a low case of food poisoning. It was very hot or miss, I’m writing this review to inform others of our experience the 1st and 2nd time.
