This review is based on the service we received towards the end of our dining experience at Hangout on Preston for the very first time. Our experience started off nice and were served by a friend polite young waitress. We were their so-called "Scoopon customer" (will explain this bit at the later part of this review).
It was a Saturday afternoon when we dined here and we were explained what our Scoopon deal entailed after we were seated. My husband ordered two coffees after seeking clarification from the waitress who served us that we could use the voucher to make up the value ($9 on drink per person as part of the deal).
At the end of our lunch, we were asked to pay for the "additional" coffee which my husband ordered. This time we were served by a different waitress at the counter. She did not seem to believe what we told her and never attempted to clarify with the young waitress who served us despite the young waitress walked past us seemingly guilty. She went on and said to us "your Scoopon deal is cheap enough" and said "yeah that's fine" when my husband said this will leave you guys a bad review. She persevered and insisted us to pay for the second coffee my husband ordered. I wish to emphasize here that this is not about the $4.50 coffee which we could easily afford but the principle. To us, this is more of a deceiving act and the success of a business often comes down to the type of services a restaurant provide. With another customer lining up behind us waiting to pay, we did not persevere but paid for the coffee which we were told initially that it was part of the deal.
To make our experience even worse, the restaurant did not bother to respond to the email my husband sent to bring this type of service we received to their attention on the same day. For a restaurant who does not treat Scoopon customer with respect and not bother to respond email, we...
Read moreQuite underwhelming food. The lamb on the lamb shanks was very tender but the gravy was really thick and I'm 99% sure it was gravox. The croquettes were bland and underseasoned. The pork belly was nice. Chicken was well overcooked and very dry but the risotto was ok. The disabled toilets were closed off, even though my disabled mum called ahead to make sure it's disabled friendly. I'm giving this place a low rating for using gravox in a meal that was $37, for extremely dry chicken and for the disabled toilets being closed off.... not good enough
Edit: we came back a second time and had quite a different experience. The pork belly was yum (again), I had the fish and chips and the portion was huge and the fish was nice. they replaced my chips with sweet potato chips and gave some extra sauce with no worries (although I did have to ask a second sauce a second time). Mum had the barramundi and she said that was cooked very nicely but she didn't like the rice. I tried her rice and although a little undercooked, I thought that it was flavoured nicely. The waiter was very nice (and very handsome) 😉. This edit was made on the 22nd of Dec at 9pm. We had Pavlova for dessert and again, huge portion and delicious. If a manager is reading this, please pass on my thanks to the writer for being so kind and helpful. oh and PS. the old fella didn't seem to mind the volume on the TV being...
Read moreI bought a Scoopon for this restaurant, but the limitations of the conditions of use significantly restricted our options for decent entrées and main courses. The entrée limit was $19, and the main course limit was $32. Interestingly, they used a photo of the lamb shanks for this Scoopon promotion, yet its cost was $38, making it ineligible for selection under the Scoopon deal.
With very few appealing choices left, we decided to share a bruschetta for our entrée and both ordered the grilled fish and chips for our main course. The fish was described as snapper, but as an experienced fisherman, I can confidently say it was not. Authentic snapper is known for its white flesh that is delicate and mild. However, what we were served was excessively rubbery, dry, and not flaky at all. The fish was tough and had an overpowering flavour, the complete opposite of what snapper should be.
The chips that accompanied the fish were equally disappointing. They were bland, poorly cooked, and lacked any crispiness, resulting in an unappetizing side dish. I ended up leaving much of my main course uneaten.
Overall, the experience was far from satisfactory. The misleading promotion, subpar food quality, and restrictive conditions made this visit highly disappointing. I will not be recommending this establishment to anyone looking for a quality...
