My dining partner and I went to L'Antica Trattoria (60 Walcott st, Mt Lawley) last week.
I’ve often wanted to visit here, given the location right near the busy Walcott and Beaufort intersection, but this was the first time.
For a Tuesday night, it was good to see a number of other tables filled. The service was friendly and responsive. The ambience was good and we had views of the city from our table.
For entree, which took just over half an hour to come out, we had the bruschetta, which were four tiny bits of toast with delicious tomato, basil and oils on top.
Mains took just over an hour(!) to come out after ordering, and seemed to be prompted by my dining partner enquiring why it was taking so long.
I had the Buffalina pizza (buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, olives, basil and San Marzano tomato sauce. It was nice, however I would have enjoyed more dollops of mozzarella, it certainly didn’t feel buffalo to me.
The other half had an interesting Spaghetti Marinara al Cartaccio which, whilst nice, she stated the dough covering the bowl was slightly undercooked.
I would try them again, and give them one more chance. I’m hoping it was just an unusually busy...
Read moreCan't see how I've not reviewed this wonder restaurant before. My wife and I went for dinner last night and what a pleasure it is from start to finish. Intimate Italian restaurant (with real Italians 😀), great food and attentive, friendly and helpful service. The food is so nice it's a huge task to pick which one you'll have. Last night we started with their oven-fired foccaccia - perfect! had the pumpkin gnocchi plus roasted vegetables and my wife one of the veal choices (usually the other way around). Such tasty and melty gnocchi. Veal was superb, also. Desserts are scrumptious at the end. Very wide range of wines, which I don't understand anyway, but the manager chose a very nice one for me. Have been before with multiple family and were able to also access via wheelchair. It always seems to fill out with customers when we're there, so just shows it's a popular choice in the area for a reason. Oh, and well worth the drive to Mt...
Read moreI've been meaning to try this italian restaurant for a long time now and finally got the chance to review it last weekend. The mare e monti pizza was okay. Having mussel shells on top was a bit annoying to have to pluck out, but the pizza base was excellent. Beef cheek ravioli was very tasty, but it could do with less salt. Having beef sprinkled throughout the sauce was a nice touch. The parpadelle beef angus ragu was extremely overcooked. The pasta was definitely not al dente, and I feel it could've used the salt from the ravioli. The parpadelle was so compacted that it resembled more of a lasagna. The truffle gnocchi sauce was flavourful, but the gnocchi itself was a bit rubbery. I didn't plan to stay for dessert. Not the best, but I'm glad I finally tried it. I will come back for...
