SIMPLE Italian Cucina Pizzeria Applecross — Restaurant in Western Australia

This is the second time round; I must say the first time was a lot better as I recall. My wife and I arrived on time and waited to be seated, the manager/owner (I assume) an ethnic male showed us to our seat, through the menus on the table and pointed at the table - extremely RUDE! The other staff were very pleasant and provided great service (apologies to them for the star's for the service provided), you can blame the owner/manager who needs to take some tips from his staff. When our friends arrived, we ordered an antipasto platter for entree between us 4 - underwhelming is an understatement, it literally had 10 olives, Burrata mozzarella (reasonable size), 2 cut up cherry tomatoes, a piece of bread cut in half and 3 slices of prosciutto for $26 the most overpriced meal I can recall I have ever ordered. Now looking at the menu apparently this is a single antipasto for 1 for $26 I see the cost of living has got out of hand here. The mains were average, I had pizza which was loaded with tomato base, this made the pizza extremely sloppy and not enjoyable. I won't comment on the other meals suffice to say they didn't look to appetizing. We sat in the alfresco area which was extremely loud, I did see a table of 4 asked to be moved inside which I assume was quieter. Atmosphere was nice, however if they were after an authentic Italian feel, they would need to reconsider background music. Sight, senses and taste……some changes can make this place stand the test of time. I would be surprised if it did as it is now! Service was very slow although polite. Restaurant wasn’t busy at all. Perhaps takeaway was comprising the service??? Food was average at best! Most dishes were served with a sad side salad, based with of old rocket…mmm my favourite..NOT. We didn’t have the pizza, although it did look good. Pizza oven was great but appeared under utilised on this day. We were a table of 6 squeezed onto a table of 4!! As it turned out restaurant was fairly empty. Perhaps they were trying to make it appear restaurant was full as we were up the front. I regret not complaining. We all said food was edible at a stretch, but not what you should expect for the price. I personally would have complained if I wasn’t with company. For the owner, concept is great….chef needs some culinary education. When we go out for dinner we want food better than we can prepare at home and on this occasion it was sadly lacking . This restaurant can be great….I hope the owners read this feedback as I do genuinely would like this...

Extremely Disappointing Experience

We had a very unpleasant experience at this restaurant during a family dinner last night, including our 5-year-old child. After being served the entrée, we waited for more than an hour for our mains, which never arrived. Despite the owner assuring us that the food would be ready in 3 minutes, 15 minutes passed and still nothing was served.

Our child was falling asleep at the table while we were left hungry and frustrated. To make matters worse, we noticed other tables—who arrived later—receiving their meals ahead of us. It became clear that our mains were never even called out to the kitchen.

The service was extremely poor. The waitress appeared inexperienced and inattentive—our water bottle was empty and not once refilled.

This restaurant is in a premium location in Ardross, where high standards are expected, but unfortunately, the service and management fell far below that. We eventually had to leave by 8 PM to take our child home without even eating our main course.

It’s a shame to see a local venue so poorly run in an area known for its excellent dining options. This restaurant currently does not reflect the quality or community...
