DONT EAT HERE!!! I have stayed at this hotel before and had no issues. However…. RESTAURANT MANAGER WAS RUDE I have recently moved into the neighbourhood (Rivervale) and decided to go there for a bite to eat with a friend. I ordered the cheeseboard off the menu because I had never tried quince before and my friend ordered the pork and a cocktail. We got our order and proceeded to chat and eat and when I remembered why I got the cheeseboard I was asking her what the quince was as I had no idea what it even looked like and she didn’t either. So I was trying to get the wait staffs attention, only to be ignored. We had been there now for about 40mins and not once did anyone come to check on us. I finally got this mans attention he looked like a manager so as he approached out table I asked are you the manager he replied in a can’t be bothered and rude tone “yes what’s the problem” I then asked what a quince was as I pointed to my half eaten cheese board. He said it was a chutney that got served in a small ramequin. I said we didn’t get any chutney. He went to the kitchen and returned with some other chutney and said sorry the kitchen had run out of the quince chutney. I then said that was the only reason I ordered the cheeseboard. He said “again I apologise”. I have hospitality background and then started putting all the pieces together and realised why we had been ignored. I said could we plse have the bill and I only think it’s fair I pay half price for the cheeseboard board. He said no I will give you 10% off. I then explained to him with the 3 chefs in the kitchen that there was no way this should have left the kitchen with a key element missing from the plate. He said “I have apologised”. Yes I said but that’s not the point. Why was I not told when I first ordered about the quince and had the option for the substitute or something different?. He just said “I’m not giving you 50% off the cheeseboard. I will give you 10%. I then had to explain again why I thought 10% wasn’t fair and no one came to check on us to see if everything was ok or if we needed more drinks, and in fact were ignored. On top of that you tried to deceive me and hoping that I wouldn’t notice there was something missing of the cheese board. He said listen you can have it all for free if you don’t ever come back here. I said I don’t mind paying all I’m asking for is you give me the cheeseboard for half price as your kitchen staff clearly knew there was no quince. He asked me to leave and never come back…. I won’t be coming back and I will tell everyone I know not to go there either. This incident didn’t need to be this dramatic. He let his ego get in the way of his...
Read moreThis review is for their buffet breakfast. I attended on 21 May.
Food: excellent, lots of cooked and continental options e.g. Scrambled eggs, chilli eggs, bacon, grilled veggies, homemade beans, Nasi goreng, waffles, sausages, hash brown, smoothie, Bircher muesli, cereal, dried fruit, nuts, granola, variety of yoghurts, fruit, cheeses, sliced meats, pastries such as crossaints, jam lattice, cakes such as carrot cake, chocolate cake, gluten free cherry slice, and a variety of different, fresh breads & spreads.
All food was fresh and delicious. Highlight is hash browns, so big & fluffy. I’ve gone to a couple of places for buffet (rendezvous, Crowne plaza) and the quality of the food here is so much better, more artisan.
Service: excellent & efficient. It was busy but staff were friendly and constantly clearing our plates and moving things along.
Location: easy to get to, free street parking is available but often busy. There is paid parking options or more free parking options towards the river.
Overall, this is my favourite place for a buffet breakfast. For $32, Springs Kitchen offers amazing value for its variety &...
Read moreThe steak here is fantastic, 2 nights in a row I have had it, the rump & the sirloin. the steaks were incredible especially considering the cuts they are. The first night my steak was slightly underdone (ordered medium rare) but I wouldn't change it at all.
The chimichurri adds a refreshing and punchy element to the steak, especially as I don't normally like my steak with anything but a decent seasoning. The broccolini and potato were a very appropriate paring for this dish and I found myself eating all 3 together, typically I would focus on only the steak.
My fiance had the linguini, which I tried and was also fantastic, she had so much to say for it, she also had it the second night.
It is worth noting both dishes do have a minor amount of heat, the linguini more so then the steak.
Beer choices are limited but not the worst (I stuck with the sidetrack xpa)and their cocktail selection was more then enough to pique interest from most.
Really good experience and would...
