Firstly, I haven't been to The Sovereign Arms for a few years , not so much because of the food, but there was extremely loud music playing, and when you're in the restaurant trying to eat and talk, you just couldn't hear anything over the music, and this put me off going back. Tonight, we had a group of 8 wanting to eat out, and I wanted somewhere local to walk to. I looked up The Sovereign Arms reviews and read nothing but positive ones, so we decided to give it another chance. WOW, what a wonderful dining experience. Firstly, Frankie our waitress was a standout, bubbly, funny, talkative, helpful, such a hard worker dashing around serving, clearing tables, and chatting to the patrons. We all enjoyed her coming over to the table, she was absolutely lovely, so I'd hold onto her, she's an asset to your business. Also the duty manager was amazing, friendly, helpful, lovely. The food... All plates cleared! We all ordered different dishes, they were ALL tasty, hot and beautifully cooked., plus they all came out at the same time. Great portion sizes, value for money, and that's very important these days. To be honest, we couldn't fault any of the service or the delicious food😋. I have been won over to come back and to make this my regular haunt when we go out for an evening meal. Congratulations to you all for a job well done, and to the chef for producing such and a great menu and for cooking such delicious food 10/10. Best meal out we've had in a very long time. I'm so happy we came back. Keep up the awesome work. The whole place was clean and welcoming xx I forgot to take photos of the food as I left my phone at home, but trust me when I say, give it a go, book a table, you will go back for more xx I heard they were one chef down tonight, so I applaud you in the kitchen for getting the job done and serving out beautiful food under what I would imagine to be difficult circumstances. You're all amazing,...
Read moreIt was our first time at the Arms on Friday 28 March 2025 and we visited with old friends and parents. The pub was pretty quiet in the main bar with a few patrons eating in the restaurant. We noted there was a DJ setting up as 'Perth Drum and Bass' and thought nothing of it until about 7.45pm when they started.
We had just started eating dinner and the music was so loud that we could not hear each other speak at the table, which was at least 40 mteres away. The average age on our table was over 60 and not only did the music did not resonate with us, it was so loud with a lot of swear words, we were all in disbelief. What had seemed to be a nice family style pub turned into a rave style night club.
We noted there was no-one in the main bar listening or watching the performance at this time either and tried to escape it but the speakers outside we also so loud we couldn't hear each other.
My understanding was that the restaurant closed at 9.00pm, so we couldn't understand why 120 plus decibel unsuitable music would commence prior to then.
We were planning to stay to around 10 to 11pm that night but had to leave and find an alternative place in Joondalup.
The staff appeared to be embarrassed for the patrons who were trying to have a quiet dinner and we were not the only ones who got up and left the Arms. Whoever's decision it was to allow this music to play should really assess the ramifications of scheduling this during meal times.
Being our first time, it is unlikely we will return, though the food tasted good, the atmosphere ruined the experience for us. I have never experienced anything like this, like mixing oil with water. I would assume the pub would have lost a fair bit of...
Read moreHave been here many times but unfortunately tonight I found a cricket or cockroach served up with my Scotch fillet, veggies and mash..... ok so things happen... first guy I spoke to at the bar was awesome, went and spoke to the kitchen and I was offered another meal and a refund. Next the Duty Manager came over being rude and explaining the guy got it wrong as he is a casual (but he did tell me he had worked there a year and had excellent customer service) and said it was her decision and she wasn’t going to give me a ‘free meal’. She was confrontational especially when I explained that the cockroach and dude staff members mistakes were not mine.... got to the point I had to ask her to leave me alone.... next she comes back with a steak and the money more agro stating she was trying to help me out “You know I am trying to help you right?” .... her ranting was next level...I think she could take a page out of the casual dudes book and be charming apologetic coz insects in food and staff mistakes are not MY fault and I don’t need help..... I just kept asking her to take the steak back and leave me alone....... not sure why she was so defensive and agro unless this happens a lot. I think the Health Department needs to have a closer look.I didn’t take any photos coz after years of working in hospitality myself it is usually sorted on the down low..... I had only had about 2 mouthfuls of my meal..... I actually feel for the owners, this chick had no idea how to deescalate...
