If I could do 3.5 stars I would. This is a beautiful restaurant and the food is quite nice, but there were just a few misses that stood out and would’ve made the experience so much better. The woman that greeted us was timid and not very confident in the menu (which I do understand, I’ve worked hospo a long time and know that confidence can take a while) and we were very rushed to get orders in (asked twice within first 5 minutes of sitting down). Now the entrees were fantastic, bigger portions than expected and the squid was cooked to perfection. Can’t fault them. Unfortunately this is as good as it gets. The mains were small, and although flavourful, were NOT worth the price. Not to mention when I ordered and asked for an extra skewer the manager/man taking our order actually suggested that I don’t, saying there was already one skewer that comes with it. I wanted two, not just one and he ended up leaving it off the order anyway so I had to ask for it again. The skewer was one scallop and two small prawns, whereas he’d made it out that I wouldn’t even be able to finish one single skewer and that I was crazy to ask for extra despite only getting half a cray. The half cray tail was good but also quite small. Again, if it didn’t cost about $90 and the add on skewer, I wouldn’t have minded the smaller portions. My partner got the snapper which was $40 and was just two very small snapper crusted filets with barely anything else on the plate except some leaves and sauce. With the entrees being so large it seems like a bit of a money grab when it comes to the mains. The food was nice enough though and cooked well. Just a shame about the...
Read moreWhat a let down, after reading all of the top reviews on here, we have Just been for a feed at the new seafood restaurant in Kalgoorlie The Cray. The service was slow and disorderly. We had to clear our own entre dishes when they started to bring out the mains. The waitresses were nice and obviously trying their best, but there was no structure, so confusion was everywhere. I won’t speak for the rest of our group but I know they were not impressed. I ordered 6 oyster Kilpatrick’s and they were not like any I have ever had before and while the weren’t nasty, they certainly weren’t good and not worth the 32 dollars I paid, they were also that small, I thought one of them had actually escaped the shell. I then had the half-grilled cray and the Morton Bay bugs, they were over cooked and lacked any proper flavor but they were still edible, but not worth the price. My son’s meal, a chicken parmy never even turned up and after waiting for a fair amount of time, I eventually complained to the manager. He appologised, and then came out with the parmy about 20mins later when everyone else at the table had finished eating and were ready to go home. Theres a lot of good reviews on here so maybe we got different cooks? But I’m sure the manager will be glad to hear I won’t be back, Moneys to hard to come by just throw it away on a sub-par meal when there are so many other good eating places...
Read moreBeautifully set up restaurant. That is where the good ended.
There were no forks provided to eat the oysters, which would be fine if we had water bowls to clean your hands. So we used our main forms and were then told you need to keep your for for the next dish and weren't offered clean cutlery.
We received a steak that was stone cold, my son's parmigiana had a hair fried into it, and the seafood platter (for 2) was $400. Cold seafood chowder that had 1 prawn in it, there was no fish on the platter, the crab legs were ok (cold) but as we had no way yo open them we were only able to eat very little of the meat and it was completely flavourless.
One of our guests said a previous dining was much better. However, for a price tag of $780 (5 people), it was definitely not worth the hit and miss food quality.
There is a lot of work to do on the food consistency, staff knowledge of the seafood preparation, and food & beverage skills and generally...
