I ordered a seafood dish with prawns and Moreton bay bugs , my friend had pasta puttanesca but it came as penne not as spaghetti. Had we not shared mine would have been difficult to eat, some what clumpy highly tomato sauce bordering in tomato paste in both dishes the saving of one dish was the capers and sliced black olives without the slight sweetness from the capers it would have been inedible. The grilled bugs were not pleasant. I suspect these had been pre cooked and re heated in a microwave. They left such a disgusting aftertaste. So much so I couldn't get the taste from my mouth even eating the lemon sorbet from the Amalfi drink.
The Amalfi drink was the best part of the meal. Service friendly and pleasant atmosphere but as a first time trying unfortunately we won't be back $92 I expected a little better and possibly chilled table water would be appreciated!!
Next they don't even want to comment their page blocked me on Facebook So not even an attempt to resolve, respond to the issues.
Edit: I've since been to a fresh fish market and bought moreton bay bug, I've cooked it myself and I can fully say that the one and a half that I got in trattoria illaria had been reheated it had not been cooked fresh for us as it was drastically shrunken and hard rubbery and dry in texture. My friend also agreed the meal I prepared today of crispy skin Salmon, prawn's scallops and the moreton bay bug far exceeded what you served.
It's disgraceful I've been cooking more than 30 years and I expected that a trained chef should at the bare minimum be able to cook better than I can.
You should be very ashamed of the meals you served to us If you don't know how to cook seafood then remove it...
Read moreBustling atmosphere, fast and responsive service, beautiful food, well thought menu, ok desserts.
We went with a group on a Friday night. And ordered 3 different pastas, chilli mussels, rib eye, broccoli and beans (side) and meatballs (starter). Loads of options in the menu!
Tables were squished together with little breathing space creating a bustling and cosy atmosphere. It was a little noisy, but not overwhelming. Might not be great for wheelchair accessibility due to the space but I'm sure they can accommodate. Food came out fast!
The pastas were to die for, flavourful and perfectly cooked. Chili mussels was as fresh as you can get. The sauce was not overpowered with garlic, had a fresh hint of herbs: the mussels were meaty and not chewy. The sides/starters were sizable, 3/4 of a meal on their own. Broccoli and beans were perfectly cooked. The rib eye was good but not great - didn't quite melt in the mouth enough. The veges it came with were spot on.
Plates were removed as soon as they were empty. Staff were very quick on their feet, courteous, and had their eyes open to serve.
We had tiramisu, vanilla brulee, chocolate caprese cake, affogato with frangelico. The affogato was good - solid shot of coffee. The marsala in the tiramisu was a little too faint, the expresso didn't quite come through. Tasted kinda dry, at least it wasn't too sweet. The vanilla brulee was a little heavier than what we preferred. The custard wasn't smooth and was a little curdled when cut through with the spoon. Sweetness was just right.
Overall, I'd definitely come back for the food, but I'll head elsewhere...
Read moreWow. Where do i start. Ok walk in, no booking but asked if they had a table for two available. They did and we sat down, weird entrance in that you walk in and you’re right on top of someone eating. Anyway we were seated, after a few minutes asked if we would like some still or sparkling water. All good. Shortly after our order taken. Not long after our meals arrived. Not the water they asked us about before ordering or the wine. Anyway the food. Probably similar to something you’d find at a pasta place in your average shopping centre food court. Ragu. Pasta clumped together. Meat a combination of clumped up mince and gristle meat. Void of flavour, average cooked. The spaghetti seafood dish. Basically if you like your food flooded with chilli and void of flavour you’re in luck. A tomato sauce was visible but lets sum up both dishes as “cooked” Completely void of any care or passion. This supposed to be an Italian restaurant. This food was not restaurant quality. On the outside it has such a warm inviting appearance which rapidly diminishes as you experience the service and food. Oh by the way our drinks inc water arrived after our food was getting cold waiting and i got up to ask for it. Although we did notice it getting delivered to two other tables who never ordered it while we waited.
In summary Systems are failing. Who ever is cooking the food, is just cooking. No passion. No flavour. Would not recommend....
