28 Aug 25-well, how is it that a restaurant can deliver the same standard every time? Steamers does just that! Thank you to Subash for a very warm welcome again! An enormous shout out to Prakash who went the extra mile to make us comfortable and to make our anniversary so memorable 💚 we were allowed a long slow drawn out lunch. These are beautiful people working here, an asset to Steamers 🤠 Most tender sirloin and what a great venison pie complimented with the outstanding Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon 2022. Just an awesome experience again. No wonder we always come here for our anniversary (and the other times inbetween) Thank you so much Steamers 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚 Update: Had an amazing lunch. The surf and turf platter, that is enough for 3 or more. Nice selection of seafood and meat. I wish I could have finished it all , just too much for 2. Excellent ☕ and dessert. Update -Well, y'all must by now be thinking I'm biased 😜 Again today was lunch at Steamers. Thank you to Carter, our waiter, for the fine attention he gave to our table 👏 well done young man! And a definite shout out to Executive Chef Paul Hamilton for the dishes served up... unbelievable! And for someone who has always found it hard to swallow sardines, well, wow, they were great! The steaks again cooked to perfection and tender as always. The rosemary gravy that went along with it was fabulous. The potatoes were cooked to perfection, crispy as! Vegies, crunchy 😋 Update- A great feeling was that when you walked in, you were immediately recognised and your favourites were remembered, awesome. I can't describe all the dishes we enjoyed and loved, as it would be too long. So here are a few must haves - CARAMELISED GARLIC 🍞...😲 Butter and garlic... can't go wrong! Whole chunks of caramelised garlic backed in this crunchy bread. When served, it's drenched in a warm garlic butter that made you feel as if you wanted to swim in it. Bad right!!!!! I think I had most of it. My favourite - WOOD-FIRED CALAMARI - oh so tender with a lovely smoky grilled flavour. (No membrane left inside trying to do the tango with your tongue 😛). The perfect bite of 🌶️, not overpowering not understated, just the perfect compliment! The ESPRESSO MARTINI - how wonderful to have the dense foam on top! (Not a foam where you could watch the bubbles of the foam popping before your 👀 and it losing all appeal like drinking a flat Coke!). Each sip was a perfect sip of foam and espresso. So happy it came with the compulsory 3 coffee beans on top. The dishes are not overloaded but they are certainly not lacking in portion size. A great experience 💯 % PS - Huge privilege to finally meet Executive Chef Paul Hamilton. A very understated man that, I thought, has a gentle nature but a quiet strength, and from what I observed, a sharp eye on what's happening in his restaurant, at the same time serving up an excellent working environment in this multi award winning restaurant! Loved it! First off, Subash was outstanding in his recommendation on 🍷🥂. He suggested a Chardonnay that was exactly as I described and we were not disappointed! As it was a smaller table with huge delectably filled plates, hubby unfortunately knocked over his FABULOUS Chardonnay, but never fear, the lady jumped into action like a gymnast and had it sorted in no time, with us apologising profusely. Subash appeared out of nowhere with a fresh glass. 10 ⭐ to you all, we thank you! We ordered the fabulous dry aged steak, did not disappoint. It was cooked to absolute perfection. The crushed potatoes was outstanding as was the Melange Salad, wow! And ordering just the 2 sides was perfect to share between 2 people. No salt and pepper on the table, however I think it should be noted that the meals were so perfectly flavoured and seasoned that not once did we feel the need to ask for seasoning. Thank you for an outstanding experience!

Steamers Bar & Grill was hard to get a handle on. On the one hand, its placement where Wollongong Lighthouse meets City Beach suggests overpriced tourist trap—an impression no doubt enhanced by nautical theming from shelves of mounted globes and other curiosities to an upside-down dingy. Couples are set to the edges of the large, glass-box dining room with the centre given over to raucous group tables and a modern fire pit where orange flames lick at glass surrounds. Groups of young people sip flamboyant cocktails next to mixed family groups on long tables flying 50th birthday balloons. On the other hand, the wine list—particularly for those obsessed with Western Australian Chardonnay—is spectacular. So, to make the most of this venue, skip theme-park cocktails, like the frothy Woodford bourbon-based Chef’s Relic ($26) with pear, pineapple rum and egg whites and the Paradisi ($22) teaming grapefruit-infused vodka with passionfruit liqueur, and by-the-glass offerings in favour of bottled wine. Sommelier and restaurant manager, Romain Bastianel, and I both concur on a favourite: the Domaine Naturaliste Artus Chardonnay ($108/bottle). While it’d suit oysters ($28/6) the Clyde River bivalves have been shucked too early to hold on to any liquor. This makes it hard for them to stand up to the interesting topping list, which included options like nori, lime dust and bonito. No matter, the generously proportioned two-course early bird special ($49/person) doesn’t need any add-ons. It dabbles across the grill-focused, please-all menu starting with tender, wood-fired calamari ($23) dusted with chilli salt. Next up, bao buns ($25/2) where a piece of overcooked char sui pork joined Asian ‘slaw and sriracha mayo. in (and strangely on) steamed buns. Slow-braised beef short rib ($39) presents a hearty slab of falling-off-the-bone beef on mash with wood-fired corn and thyme jus. It’s teamed with a mixed leaf salad ($14) and artichoke ravioli ($35) bespeckled with charred corn and peas. Curiosity saw us add on rumbledethump ($14)—a skillet of baked mashed potato folded with cabbage and onion under golden, melted cheese—utterly delicious but totally surplus to need. Steamers delivered plenty of food very quickly for a reasonable price, and had a wine list of a calibre rarely seen: it’s a study of contrasts.

The five of us went out for a special birthday dinner last night We aren’t the type of people to bad-mouth a local resturant but when you pay $367 for dinner you expect it to be first class food . It simply wasnt .this was genuinely the worst meal we’ve have had in a very long time.. We got the mixer plater for two $200.00 and 2 of the $45 menu and ordered 6 different items. The arancini were tiny, tasted like they were frozen the centre was still cold . They were so tiny .we have arancini regularly from different resturants and these were the smallest too small.more like for kids meal. The jalepeno poppers were similar. The lamb tacos had were ok but again so small and tasteless not resturant quality then the risorto was average way too much salt. On to the mixed planter when it arrived were all dissapointed at the lack of food on the planter for $200 there wasnt much for a mixed planter id say it was 80% Seafood.not much meat at all tje little meat wasnt very nice .the thai brisket beef so salty and the chicken way too much spices way too much salt.the lack of quality meat in the platter was very dissapointing. We were expecting better quality of food . Probably a yr agi we last came to steamers and had a great experience we ordered two platters 12 months ago when the resturant had a seafood platter and a meat platter they were the best two platters we have had so thought the same experience was forth coming with last nights dinner. Sadly it wasnt to be maybe new owners this time round.but we wont be coming back. .service was good but food very poor

I wish I was coming here to write a great review but unfortunately I am not. We were so excited after a long days drive to finally have a beautiful meal (also after having horrible food everywhere else), we walked in and we’re the second customers in there so we thought great they’re not busy at all. We ordered with a young gentleman who was absolutely lovely at his service, received our garlic bread and the kids meal and that was it - we were in the restaurant altogether for 1 hour and 25 minutes. Our starter was fabulous and then I noticed all the other tables who came in long after us all getting their plates, in this time not one waiter came up to us to ask if we were okay or if we wanted a menu or if we were wanting anything else, drinks etc etc. Meanwhile all the waiters on floor were asking all other tables if they could do anything else for them, 45 minutes after not receiving our order I got the waiters attention who turned around to me and said ‘is there something wrong’ (would you not notice we were sitting there like stun mullets doing nothing but waiting and wonder why?) anyway I stated we’ve been waiting a long time for our main meals when everyone else has received theirs, she then told us that the person who originally took our order forgot to enter it in…. How? We had received our entree and starter so how did the other main food forget to be placed in the system? She stated she would get the chefs onto it asap, another 10 minutes went by and other tables were still getting their meals before us, so after around another 15 minutes after asking where our food was we decided we were leaving and had enough of sitting their waiting. We weren’t even offered a drink or anything while we were sitting there just waiting. When I left I had the manager who came and spoke to us who was extremely empathetic however offering us take away was just not acceptable when we were needing to pay the full price of a normal eat in service, not to mention being unable to eat the food as takeaway when we had to drive. In the end the manager did let us go and not pay for our starter or kids meal but I just don’t understand where it all went wrong. A simple ‘’hey guys can I please get you anything else’’ from the waiters would have prompted the situation a lot earlier than us having to continue and sit there and keep watching them (while they also knew I was looking) so I don’t know why we weren’t asked if we needed anything else if they noticed we were sitting there doing nothing. I understand human error and communication but this all to me was extremely odd. We won’t be back and I suggest anyone else who goes to not sit there and get the waiters attention as soon as you want it instead of being polite and waiting that...

A restaurant with alot of potential and alot of shortcomings. Steamers can have moments in hot water that puts itself short of greatness.

While in a prime location with lovely decorations the Steamers menu leaves somewhat of a mixed result.

The caramelised garlic bread was an amazing open to the night rich with flavour and character. A perfect beginning to any meal

The Oysters and Scallops were divine, some of the best I have tasted in my lifetime and I highly reccomend these items off the menu. The cocktails and mocktails are both crafted well with supreme presentation. The bay bugs were also cooked to perfection. Unfortunately this is where the majority of the restaurants greatest strengths isolate themselves.

The chips, salmon and calamari are all passable but nothing makes them stand out from any other decent restaurant. It is well worth noting that the spice added to the calamari brings a welcome suprise to an otherwise hit or miss seafood selection.

The tempura fish and barramundi unfortunately left much to be desired. With the fish covered in batter so thick it took away from the flavour of the fish instead feeling like a cheap fish and chips shop buy that should be wrapped in a mountain of butchers paper. The barramundi while cooked well has too much in the bag with it that soaks into the flavour upsetting the notes of what could have been a good fish.

The most upsetting part of my visit was the prawns and king prawns which tasted rubbery flavourless. This was quite dissapointing as it makes up a large portion of the seafood board.

The restaurant does however redeem itself with absolutely excellent service. Most of the staff were attentive and swift. Our waitress Ruby was very helpful and made our evening quite the enjoyable experience. She certainly made a warm first impression and carried the evening through with thoughtfull checkups, adjustments and reccomendations.

The price points of some menu items are absolutely justified however one place that could have used improvement was the price of the seafood board. For nearly $200 it was upsetting to see half of the board filled with mediocre selections.

In summary while some menu items may fall short Steamers Wollongong has so much potential to be great. Excellent service and atmosphere are only brought down by some small price points and a select few bland dishes. Overall a most enjoyable experience and would highly reccomend you check them out...
