Based on the reviews and our experience, it seems like an evening here is either a big hit or a big miss. Unfortunately for us, our evening here wasn't what we expected from this tier restaurant. We were with a party of five, 4 of which tried the 6-course surprise menu. We had three accompanying wines.
The first warning of the evening was that the bread was served without anything, not even butter or oil. They maintained this level of hospitality when serving the dishes in our surprise menu only in German, even though we had politely asked them for English. On top of this, they didn't wait for everyone to receive their dish before explaining it: definitely a mistake on this level. As for the dishes, most of them were unbalanced or unsurprising. Once, one of us got a different portion even though we all had the same dish. If you don't see such a difference, what else will they miss? We found out the answer soon enough, as grey-colored duck was served as part of the five-course menu. Unable to chew their way through, they sent it back. The restaurant recognized the mistake and was happy to take the dish back, but offered nothing in the way of a solution.
The main course was great for the ones with the surprise menu, although I wouldn't know what it was due to the language barrier. Wine pairing was only explained by house, grape and year but there's no explanation why it fit the dish we received or what the taste profile was like. As we had three wines along six dishes, the pairing didn't always work for us. After paying, we weren't told where our coats were, leaving us sitting at our table, hoping to be helped.
The level of dining advertised by Die Tischlerei is in no way represented in the evening we experienced. For 100 euro's per person we spent the evening talking about the dreadful service instead of reminiscing about our holiday. Wouldn't...
Read moreAppetizers: The asparagus mousse with smoked salmon tasted good, but the presentation was off. Beetroot color had bled into the mousse, and the rice wafer was chewy instead of crispy.
Salad: The salad was excellent, with a perfect balance of flavors, raising expectations for the rest of the meal.
Carpaccio: The carpaccio lacked flavor and the accompaniments didn’t add much.
Soup: The soup looked nice but was too bland. It needed a stronger flavor to stand out.
Main Course - “Pink Veal”: The veal was overcooked and didn’t match the description on the menu.
Dessert: The dessert was also overcooked and lacked a fresh, acidic element to balance it.
Wine Pairing: The wine pairing was good, better than average, scoring a 3.5 out of 5.
Overall: There were high points, like the salad and wine pairing, but issues with texture, presentation, and flavor brought the experience down. Improvements are needed for a better...
Read moreFine dining ambiente and service. Menu was very creative and exciting, but the food was not that great. Not as in too salty or anything similar - then we would have complained. They were conceptually flawed - topinabursoup was thin and milky but too strong in taste, with raw thin slices of (we think) topinabur tasting like paper, only to be completely overruled by cardamon balls that only made it weird. Same thing with the other dishes. Missing a good wine recommendation, and with overly experimental combinations of taste - i don't think it is price competitive at all. Thinking of how good everything looked on the menu I'm really...
