5/5 for Reservation Experience:
Easy form based system through their website which is reviewed and confirmed by a human. Had a basic issue with mine as there seemed to have been an error with my form submission. Was resolved within the same day.
4.5/5 for Food Quality:
We actually went there twice and had the Char fish fillet twice (once each) which was well-plated, had a nice crisp skin without causing too much of the fats to run from the flesh and smooth buttery mashed potatoes.
The Deer ragout was a little disappointing, with the meat being a bit on the dry side, however the presentation was decent and sauce had good flavour depth.
Penne with truffle whipped cream and strip of beef fillet was actually a lot better than expected. The pasta itself was cooked to al dente, the truffle cream sauce had a significant truffle flavour and aroma without being sickly strong. The beef fillet was cooked to medium-rare without needing to be directed and was superbly seasoned and tender. A very pleasant surprise for what sounded like a slightly interesting pasta dish.
Vanilla Créme Brulee was remarkably well done, very creamy, strong vanilla flavour and coarse torching on the top to give it a caramel edge and some texture. The accompanying Raspberry sorbet I assume was made in-house and provided a fresh and sharp counterpoint.
We chose a red wine called "Mordor" which was a little above what we wanted to spend, but turned out to be a fantastic blend which incorporated 2x Austrian grape varieties.
5/5 for the Interior:
Has obviously been designed professionally, with good use of dark colours, natural woods and wall/ceiling textures using wood and antlers.
3.5/5 for Menu Variety:
Controversial maybe, but the recent craze of having random elements of Asian cuisine available on menus in ski resorts just makes no sense. Why would I be interested in ordering fried spring rolls, with "king" prawns or a chicken yellow curry in the Austrian mountains??? I assume that this is just part of the trend, but I personally find it obscure and pointless. Choice of 6-7 burgers seems a bit odd considering the attempt at being an elevated dining restaurant and should be limited to 2 of their most interesting and the others available for Lunch only, with more space for variety on the Dinner menu.
5/5 for Staff:
Attentive, professional, good eye for detail but also jovial and well-spirited.
Overall - Definitely give this place a shot if you're in the area. We...
Read moreNot for international visitors Unfortunately one of the worst experiences I've had in a long time. We went there the first night arriving in Saalback, and it was okay, but nothing special. It's very few places to go in this town after a certain time, so it looks to be a busy place from the lack of competition. The second night we ended up at the same place, from the lack of alternatives. We waited approximately 30 minutes in line, being the first after the 2 persons in front of us. In that time between 25-30 persons had left, without anyone being let in, beside some persons who were very friendly/familiar with the staff (they skipped the line, there was no booking/list, so clearly friends of staff). This obviously leading to other people leaving the que, and/or complaining between themselves. When I confronted the lady who perceived to be the manager, she firstly told me that I won't get in pointing out facts like that, and secondly laughed in my face and told me "bye bye" when I replied she can't run a business like that... I had to laugh a little myself when getting responds like that because it's very rare I've encounter such unprofessional management. In the lack of alternatives this place will unfortunately still be running well in the future, but I hope they learn how to treat their guests better. Until then I recommend visitors to Saalbach-Hinterglemm to visit other bars. The restaurant in the second floor looks to be good when looking at other reviews (I have not been), so my review is...
Read moreWe were at the 43rd Farmer's Market last week. Unfortunately, the previous reviewers are right about the arrogant service, although this only applies to one staff member, a tall, brown-haired man who was very arrogant towards my two little daughters and my wife. He was visibly only friendly with his buddies and drank quite a bit with them, practically serving no one else. The only reason we stayed at the restaurant was because the other two young male waiters were incredibly kind and handled the crowd professionally with smiles on their faces. I even commented to our waiter that the new guy could learn from them what professional customer service is like. He laughingly replied that he has been here the longest. This style is not typical of Austrian hospitality, so we were very surprised. During our stay, we visited several other restaurants where, despite the crowds, they were extremely kind. The food was very delicious, and the rest of the staff were really nice. This one man is seriously damaging the...
