What styles itself as "boutique" hotel is actually not more than a digitalized hostel. Which is conveniently left unsaid in its self-presentation, on its website, but even worse also on the booking portals such as booking.||||No-frills digital is fine - but then, you need to pull it off. If you only realize upon arrival that there is no reception, and if no call to any of the telephone numbers provides any answers, and if you start wondering whether the online checkin (which is cumbersome) yielded any results: then you know that these are amateurs, wanna-be digital entrepreneurs. The WA number provided is operated by a chatbot. The only channel that worked during our stay was sending an email. With the resulting latency to get a response.||||The rooms are small, no space to swing a cat in. No wardrobe, just a rack with five hangers. Wash basin in the room - welcome back to the 19th century, only now with running water. What holds itself out as "garden suite" is actually the converted backyard barrack - with windows to the busy courtyard.||||You need to check out by 1000 am, and of course you cannot deposit your luggage, so you either lug it around or head to the train station, to use their lockers.||||The cafe serving (decent) breakfast is a collaboration partner, they do not belong to the hotel.||||Hotels are defined by their service, not by their infrastructure. No reception, no housekeeping, no roomservice, no nothing: at this service level, the price is a rip-off, even during...
Read moreBoutique hotel? Das Salz is a rather below average Hostel⊠A real disappointment!
The web presentation, photos and design of the accommodation - everything looks really great. Unfortunately, when you arrive at the location, the reality is completely different. You will arrive at the accommodation on a busy street and in an unsightly neighborhood that has seen the worst of it - chipped walls, broken equipment, dirt...
We thought it was only the fault of our Urban Hideaway room. Unfortunately, after changing our room to a Garden View, we discovered that this problem is most likely with all rooms. In order not to write only negatives, the staff at the breakfasts at the accommodation were very nice and tried to help us.
If you like a nice environment and cleanliness, better choose another accommodation.
BTW.: The solution to changing the room was not easy at all - first of all, it was not possible to call the indicated phone number (the accommodation does not have a reception desk), then, without our knowledge, unmarked cleaners with a dubious appearance, who could not speak English, were sent to our room without our knowledge, and after we had a request to change the room, the gentleman on the phone lied to us that "the hotel is probably completely full", so it would not be possible to make a change (I checked the occupancy and they had about 7 rooms available on the booking). Such communication upon arrival was...
Read moreWe visited Salzburg on the 4th week of August recently. We stayed in Das Salz with my family. Its a different kind of a hotel run by College students on a part time basis. The hotel does not have a reception, instead one of the students will be there between 9-5pm to address your concerns.||The following are my feedback:||PROS:||1. Good compact clean rooms. Quite spacious.|2. Great location with access to trains ( 10 min walking), bus stop( next to the hotel), departmental stores ( SPAR 100m) and lots of food options through restaurants. The city centre near Mirabel palace is about 15min walking fromm the hotel.|3. Decent restaurant at the lobby also operated by students.|4. Provision for luggage room and lockers to keep your valuable safe while you explore Salzburg.|5. The students are quite helpful and supportive.|6. Great options of bicycles and umbrellas on a rainy day.||CONS:||1. No kettle and tea/coffe provisions in the room.|2. We were given Access number for Access to doors and rooms. No key or key cards. Once the Access number did not work. I had to request for a new Access number to get through.|3. The hotel is on the busy main road. If your windows is facing the main road, it makes a lot of sound in the busy hours. Hence you need to keep the windows closed.|4. Centralized A/C. The room A/C controls does not work. I tried many times. On a hot day, it would be very...
