For me all I want when I am on holiday is a place to rest my head at the end of the night as I am going to be out exploring when I visit a new place. This was my first time visiting Salzburg so I did not intend to spend a great deal of time in my hotel room.||With this in mind the Keep Eco Residence is perfect. I was able to book my room easily and a few days prior to arrival I was contact by email to let me know the code for getting into my room and all the things I needed to know for my stay.||I found the place fairly easily with google maps. I was coming from the airport and I got the trolleybus 2 into the city centre to the Hauptbahnhof. From here it is only a 10 minute walk and it is fairly straightforward.||There is no reception desk and to get into my room I entered in the code I had been given and the door opened easily.||My room had lovely timber all around and had a very natural vibe which I loved. In the blurb I had been sent it said about how they love to upcycle and reuse things and this was very evident in the room.||After spending quite a bit of time I returned and spent a bit of time in the room relaxing before going to sleep. It is really close to the railway line to there were trains passing by, if this is something that annoys you I suggest keeping your window shut.||Looking out of my window in the morning and I was greeted with a huge snow capped mountain in the distance which was a lovely thing to see when you are not used to it. I had a decent rest and woke up feeling relaxed.||My room did not have a bathroom and I had to use the communal bathroom which was clean. The shower was lovely and really invigorating which was perfect.||I decided to go down to the restaurant which offered breakfast for a few hours in the morning. There was a wide variety of cereals, yoghurt, fruit, bread and rolls available and it was all vegan which was really great to see.||It was not too expensive costing 16.50 Euros and I was able to pay for this on my card.||If you want a place to stay that is a little different I would DEFINITELY recommend staying at Keep...
Read moreI overall had a decent stay but wouldn’t stay again, here’s why:
CONTEXT: I booked a month in advance and paid about $130 Canadian for 1 night. Stayed at the beginning of July 2025.
PROS: Excellent proximity to Salzburg HBF Train Station. 10 min walk away. Relatively QUIET. I did not hear anyone at night. Noise was your good especially for a hostel. (note I stayed on a Monday which could effect that) Easiest check in / check out process ever (just use a code) no check in fees Aesthetic / Design: I do like the designs of the rooms. One of the reasons I picked it. Proximity to Mirabell Gardens (5 min walk) close enough to Old Town This was one of cheapest options available for a private room A private sink in your room is beneficial Free public Transport included Cleaning staff was friendly / accommodating
CONS Mainly NO AC for those who care about this. Considering it was a relatively cool summer day (15-20 C) it was shocking how hot the room was, couldn’t imagine it on an actual hot day. The pillows are tiny and uncomfortable The shared bathroom / shower is not good. Check attached photo. It’s a tiny shower room with a toilet and sink thrown in. The photos didn’t accurately reflect this. while the hostel is relatively quiet, you will probably wake up once or twice from the vibrations of the trains going by. Yes it’s adjacent to the train tracks. Located in a less vibrant / quieter area of town (not necessarily a bad thing but good to note) no reception Luggage storage is just a room with shelves. Not a good choice for those who maybe be worried about their possessions.
Overall. This wasn’t the right place for ME and what I’m looking for in a stay. That’s my mistake maybe. But it could be right for those who usually...
Read moreOK place, I like the “eco” idea, but the execution could be a lot better.
First the good parts: Good location half way between the train station and the old town. Nice little communal kitchen on the 1st floor. Clean rooms.
Now the not-so-good parts: Very dated and pretty run down interior. Tiny door lock key pads made it hard to see & press the right numbers. Strangely designed bunk beds with naked filament LED lamps hanging from the ceiling. Unfortunately, that means that your late night reading will keep everyone else up too. Nailing a few rustic wooden boxes on the wall is not great for storage. My room had a shower cabin in the room itself, but no toilet. Seems like a strange choice, but OK. Unfortunately, the shower had no shelf for the soap and only had a flimsy curtain so the (room) floor got pretty wet too. Very flaky and virtually unusable WiFi in my room on the 4th floor. I had to go down to the communal kitchen to get a workable connection. There were stickers with QR codes all over my room, but I have no idea what they were for because none of the links worked. I guess someone thought it would be “cool”, but an actual written note would have been more useful. It was super hot when I was there and the lack of AC made sleeping in the room almost unbearable. The included small fan that helped a bit, though. The noise from the nearby train tracks can be very loud if you try to keep the window open at night. Pretty pricey vegan (only) breakfast focused around bread & spreads. Some might see it as a positive thing, but for me it was a big drawback and I wish they would have mentioned this on their website before I included it...
