Café Caché — Restaurant in Vienna

Super hyped, new restaurant. Very lovely interior and general vibe. However we felt the food didn’t live up to expectations - the plates where quite small and our fish unfortunately was super salty. You could really see that they only opened up a couple weeks back - when we got there table wasn’t yet ready despite having made our reservation well in advance and being perfectly on time. It's for sure a hipster restaurant, but it has also substance and quality. Some dishes are amazing and quite smart (the mackerel and the champignon burger), others are less impressive (the roasted carrot), but they all feel intentional and balanced. Also the concept of little dishes to share is fun. They prepare a sick margarita and they have by the glass an excellent wine (the chardonnay Mineral from Pfalz). There more to this location than meets the eye. I didn't get around to understand what going on but people had a certain revery about being there.

The atmosphere is strange mix between run down traditional Vienna coffee shop and a modern minimalist organic vegi bar.

It seems Qualtinger was a regular guest here but maybe I misunderstood that.

Tip: we had a kid with us that clearly enjoyed the crepes filled with sour cherry and topped with sour cream cuz...
