Without hesitation, I give Porgy & Bess a well-deserved 5-star rating.
Upon entering the club, I was struck by its charming and intimate atmosphere, which provided the perfect setting for a night of world-class jazz performances. The stage was perfectly positioned, allowing every patron to have a great view of the artists performing. The lighting was soft and ambient, creating a cosy and inviting environment.
The lineup of artists that night was nothing short of spectacular. The musicians' talent, passion, and skill were evident in every note they played, showcasing a true mastery of their craft. It was an honour to witness such extraordinary talent up close and personal, and the performances left me with goosebumps more than once throughout the evening.
The food served at Porgy & Bess was an unexpected delight, further elevating my experience at the club. I opted for their burger and wedges, which was a delectable combination of flavours that left my taste buds craving more. The presentation was beautiful, and the portion sizes were generous, making for a satisfying meal. In addition, the drink menu offered a diverse selection of fine wines, craft beers, and refreshing cocktails, catering to every preference (because I was driving, I couldn't have any drinks)
The organisation and professionalism displayed by the staff (including the sound engineer) at Porgy & Bess were also commendable. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality, making me feel like a valued guest. The service was attentive and efficient, ensuring that my dining and listening experience was seamless and uninterrupted.

Read moreThe club is nice, the staff is nice, and except the fact that the organisation of the seats was catastrophic (someone was sitting on our seats, then the staff gave us another seats, and still someone else was sitting on the new seats, then the staff gave us another seats and again someone else was on the seats at the end I was thinking that they were doing me a hide camera...... Finally we just got some last free chairs on the bas it was unsuseles to return to see the staff again). The performance was not a jazz but as the club title is "jazz and music", let's say it was understandable (maybe the word "music" after "jazz" means that they can perfome everiting else than jazz). About 60 to 70% of the performance was a one man stand up comedy show in german, so for non German speaking foreigners it was a complete waste of time. It is a pity and a complete joke that the official tourist website www.wien.Info is marketing this club as "one of the best 10 jazz clubs in Europe". I can say that the performance I saw was not a jazz at all (in the few minutes when the musicians were playing music), and for the rest, it was a German language one man comedy performance. The gernam speaking people seems to enjoy the jokes of the performer, I just say for me it was not a jazz...
Read moreGreat place but I hope it does not lose its charm! Book early for the best seats. The music is usually not too loud to sit in the front. Staff nice and friendly. Pretty classic in terms of sit, drink, and enjoy. Crowd a bit older due to price but depends on what band is playing also.
Eat before you go!!!
Edit 1 year later: I took away a star because the food is terrible and the seats are too close and it takes away from the experience. It used to be cool to come with work colleagues but now the seats are so close they are uncomfortable and you cannot even turn around or to any angle to talk to a colleague. The food the last 3 times I went took over an hour and was not good. Good luck getting what you ordered. Good luck finding the veggie patty in the veggie burger. Good luck eating the banana sized goulash beef rocks with a spoon (not easier with a knife so do not bother asking for that either). The bar upstairs is slow with 2 bartenders despite low demand, one bartender confused about menu and does not understand to wait until loud parts of music to do...
