A heartbroken Bostonian who traveled for Taylor Swift & Paramore, Owen and all the staff and patrons at 1516 Brewery were the main people to turn my trip around. I found this place the first night as I was craving a more American style beer after spending the last few days in Munich. This became our home away from home for the next 3 nights. The atmosphere is incredible, and they have a great beer selection. Most interesting to me was the Hop Devil IPA, which is a Pennsylvania (US) beer but they source their hops directly from the Victory brewery and brew their own on site, so it is fresh and delicious. The slipper pale ale and the Pina colada sour were also standouts. I made some of best friends here, they were more than willing to take song requests and let us scream and sing our hearts out. Owen remembered us immediately after our first visit and his sense of humor uplifted me everytime I was in. I will miss this place and it will be my first stop if I am lucky enough to return to Vienna. Quick PS - I only got the potato wedges but they were BOMB, I’m sure all food here is great too ☺️

September 2022. It was one of the only lunch sports open on Sunday that wasn't super expensive and didn't require reservations, so we've merrily ordered goulash and the house beers (1516 beers are fantastic and I wish I could've taken a six-pack home with me) in what turned out to be a mostly pleasant experience. Sitting in the top floor, unfortunately not near a window because they were all occupied, this place has a lovely view on the next building. Beautifully designed in vintage/90s posters and art with great music - it's a very chill place. So we really wanted to fully enjoy this place, HOWEVER the goulash arrived cold so it must have been sitting there waiting to be ordered by someone. It was reheated and still good, though. Plus, the tabasco sauce are all expired YEARS ago (2017,2020), and when we'd asked for a replacement they were all expired! So we wanted to love this place because it really is cute, but they sadly made it kind of difficult for us.

Das Essen und das Bier im 1516 sind sehr gut, allerdings ist es ohne Reservierung teilweise unmöglich einen Tisch zu bekommen. Was man unbedingt beim Reservieren fragen sollte, ist wie lange man den Tisch denn dann zur Verfügung hat (letztes Mal habe ich das verabsäumt und so wurden wir nach 1 1/2 Stunden aufgefordert den Tisch zu verlassen und das obwohl wir keine 5 Minuten vorher ein Dessert bestellt hatten, ohne dass uns gesagt wurde, dass die Reservierung nur für 90 Minuten war. Dies ist mit Essen definitiv unzureichend Zeit. Von der Kellnerin wurden wir dann unhöflichst angeschnauzt, dass das unsere Schuld wäre, denn es sei bei der telefonischen Reservierung dazugesagt worden. Dies war definitiv nicht der Fall, denn ich hätte niemals einen Tisch für 90 Minuten reserviert, wohlwissentlich, dass wir etwas Essen wollen. Das Dessert wurde nach einer Diskussion dann immerhin kostenlos storniert, obwohl wir es ohnehin nicht konsumieren konnten) Zu Thanksgiving gibt es immer ein herrliches Turkey Menü, aber auch hier muss man reservieren. Da läuft aber alles meist reibungslos ab, da ist aber auch der Chef im Haus und koordiniert alles. —————————————————— At 1516 the food is delicious and the beer is great which is why you ought to reserve a table. The staff speak English and German but mostly answer the phone in English. Also, when you do call make sure that you ask how long the table is yours. Last time I made a reservation, I didn’t do this and bitterly regretted it since we only had the table for 90 minutes which is not enough time if you want to eat with friends and chat. To make matters worse we ordered a dessert 5 minutes before somebody else’s reservation stared - we weren’t told that they needed the table when we were seated nor when we ordered the dessert. However, after 90 minutes a waitress came to our table and asked us to pay since we needed to leave. When we told her that we had ordered dessert which we hadn’t received yet she rudely told us that this was our own fault and that we had been told that the reservation was only for 90 minutes - which again we weren’t neither on the phone, nor in person when we sat down or ordered the dessert. After some discussion we at least didn’t have to pay for the dessert which we didn’t get anyway. But apart from this rather unfortunate experience, we really enjoy coming here especially for Thanksgiving where they offer a splendid thanksgiving meal.

This is an absolute MUST if in Vienna. We went twice and had the same server (she remembered us) and she was excellent. The food is fabulous. I had the yogurt barbecue chicken one night and a pasta dish with Alpine cheese the other night. They put us in an air-conditioned room upstairs upon request and then the second time we went, we wanted to sit outside. When we arrived, there wasn’t room, but the host came over a few minutes later and said he had a table for us that opened up. There is such a variety of different foods that you cannot go wrong. From traditional Austrian to down home American, this place was soooo good! I also loved the Caesar salad. We will absolutely return here next time we are in Vienna. Plus the location is perfect as well. Don’t miss this restaurant!

There’s a lot of seating outside but seeing how quiet it was inside I tried to get a table by the door. As a lone diner I was told I could only sit at the bar, which was a shame, but it ended up being a nice meal. The service as a result of being sat right in front of the bar staff was great - drinks were proactively served right away and there was no need to wait when wanting food items. There weren’t as many beers available as I was expecting but what is present is brewed on site and priced well. The mix of available food is good with something to suit all occasions. The pork burger was a good size, very tasty and had the perfect level of spice. It’s somewhere a bit different to everywhere else in the city and I’d happily return.
